Newbe in FL, thinking of my first build

Postby d_lairson » Tue Jan 19, 2010 2:05 pm

Hi All,

I'm David from South Florida, Married with two dogs and thinking about building a weekender, well basically for weekend trips. About a year ago my wife and I saw a teardrop at Ft Wilderness at Walt Disney World. We've been stewing about it since then and we are going to take the final plunge. I've been modifying the weekender plans to suite our needs, making it a 5 x 8 and trying to come up with some good designs for the galley, which is harder than I thought. I've also been looking into the towing weight issue, we can only tow 1200lbs with our car, so I'm trying to keep it under that, which is proving a little more difficult than I thought, what with the weight of the trailer and the almost 200lbs of extras that we want to add...
We have one primary purpose for the weekender, and that is trips to the Disney World Ft Wilderness, so we are kind of customizing it for that, but we also anticipate other trips we might take with it.
I'm looking forward to mining the knowledge of the forum, and right now I have a ton of questions.

Cheers,
David

Welcome David,
The research process can be a long one, so plan to spend lots of time on this forum. There is a ton of experience to learn from here. I am also in FL and have been working on my TD for a lot longer than I care to admit, but it is coming along. I am still spending a lot of time trying to work out details for the galley. I think if you just keep it simple without too much glued in place, you can always go back and add/subtract as you learn what you need. The Disney campgrounds look nice. We've never camped there, but driven through to 'scout it out'. Good luck and get working.

Hey David,

Welcome to the group from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC! I'm from Tampa area originally, but moved to NC a few years ago.

Anyway, one of my goals in building my modified family weekender is to come down out of the mountains sometime and go camping at Ft. Wilderness! I've never been, but even as a kid I thought going to Ft. Wilderness would be a blast! I;m thinking now that my young'uns would really enjoy it!

Build yours, maybe we could plan a teardrop gathering there sometime! See how many tear folks we can get to attend It is my big goal for the next Season.
