I have been looking at your sight for months and found it very interesting. I am wanting to build a teardrop for me and my son to go camping in.

Welcome from over in Mississippi; you're at the right site for lots of info on building and camping. You should also check out the Tearjerkers site - Sweet Tears Alabama.

Welcome from Asheville!

Hey Welcome to the T&TTT group from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC!

I am building family camper, too. A modified weekender design with a bunk. I have several Aunts/Cousins in Mobile, AL.

Keep us posted to your progress, I know the kids love "helping" with my build, although the more "help" I get, the slower it seems to go, I think they will always remember it as a family project.

Welcome. Be sure and check out the TearJerkers site as well. I'm the chapter director for Alabama (Sweet Tear Alabama). We had our first gathering in December and we had several homebuilts. We've got a gathering planned for May at Lake Guntersville. I'll be getting more details out in a couple of weeks.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I have a 4x6 trailer and I am looking to extend it a couple more feet. I hope to get started on it soon.

Not much to look at right now. I am trying to decide where to extend it. Excuse the old pool in the trailer which is now at the landfill.

Definitely a "start." The fun part for me is simply figuring/planning on how to make it work.

I have seen where people use 4x8 and also 5x8 trailers which is best?
My trailer is a 4x6 which could be extended but a full size mattress will not fit in a 4x8.

I got to looking at fiberglass camper shells and it looks like it would be easy to use that as the roof and build up the sides to the height you want and then fiberglass the sides.
Just a thought :)
has anyone ever done this?
I tried to search it and did not see anything listed.
Here is a rough draft of what I have in mind.
The back galley hatch is already done for you by using the rear door.
