New from FL

Postby Lindahun » Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:20 pm

Bought a trailer last week and found this forum. I thought everyone was so nice here, never joined a forum before because Im sort of shy.

Owned a MC trailer with a pop up camper, but found it too large for me to deal with it. My husband was in a accident and can't drive at this time. I was hoping to get us out of the house and having fun times again. I have never pulled a trailer before, but hoping I can learn.

I own two dogs that travel with me everywhere. I bought a special carrier for my bike and we all went on a long trip this past summer, 4500 miles on a 250 Honda. Couldn't ride the big bikes because I was in a wreck and hadn't built my strength up. Maybe I'm pushing my luck and should sit home. Ha Ha

Anyway, hoping to meet some nice folks that can give me advice, etc.

Did I say we are retired ? And was loving it till the last accident.

Hey Linda,

Welcome to the T&TTT group, from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC. I'm originally from Florida, lived in Tampa most of 42years, spent a few years in Gainesville going to school (Go Gators), now I live in the mountains!

Good group of folks here in this group and a lot of information about little campers. Hope you all are on the mend, and good times camping ahead. Keep us posted!

Hi Al

Postby Lindahun » Sun Jan 31, 2010 12:21 am

I worked for the University of FL for 26 years. I live about 65 miles from Gainesville. My children still live there. So I know where you were. Only went to Miami once or twice, that was enough for me. Too many people.

Love going to the mountains in NC. We own a timeshare at Fontana Villiage.

Thanks for the kind words.

Welcome from Michigan... I sure wish I were vacationing in FL right now. It's cold up here!

Hi Linda,

Nice to see another Floridian join the forum. What kind of new trailer did you get? Hope you and your husband can join us at a gathering of tiny trailers in the near future.

Hi Everyone

Postby Lindahun » Sun Jan 31, 2010 2:01 pm

Nice to hear from everyone.

Mike, it's cold here to me. But I'm sure it's warmer than where you are from. Welcome to come and visit and park on a lot I have.

BC Toys, I love Vegas. Spent a week there once. You always have something to do. Unlike Summerfield.

Steve, nice to meet someone else from FL. Maybe we can meet at one of the gatherings sometime. As for the type of trailer I bough, it's a Little Rescal. Only weighs about 550 lbs I think. I'm going to try and pull it with a little Honda Del Sol. So far it hasn't been a problem pulling it. Need to practice backing, etc.

Wow! Small world, I really liked Gainesville, liked it more than Tampa actually, spent about 9 years there at UF, finally earning my 4 year degree in English. I was a career student, at the time. I used to play music and also sometimes wait tables at Skeeters Restaurant, Home of the Big Biscuit!

Asheville is similar to Gainesville, in a lot of ways, except with mountains, small but with a lot of culture, art/music/cafe's, open-minded mountain town. A great place to live! Good camping up here, too.

Congrats on the little Rascal!

Hi

Postby Lindahun » Sun Jan 31, 2010 3:32 pm

Al, you won't believe this but I worked for the University of South FL for 12 years. I just added all my university years together when I said I worked in Gain. for 26 years. Lived in St Pete then. I liked living in both places. Moved in between both places when my husband got a job here. I went back to work at U of FL then.

Will try to get some pictures posted soon. The guy I bought the trailer from detailed it to sort of match my car.

Which one the one on 13th or 34th? I haven't heard that in forever, I think they are closed. I guess Skeeter really did need the money. I haven't been there in a long time.

The one on 13th street, then downtown after they moved. They went out of business in 1993 or so, for failure to pay taxes. New ownership - Always amazes me how someone can buy a thriving, landmark business, and through incompetence run it into the ground! Those were good times, though, when I worked there. Sold me many an Asher Special.

Wow! Well, I was born/raised in St. Petersburg/Pinellas Park. I got my MA in Counseling from USF, knocked it out in 2 1/2 years, older and more serious by then...

Welcome aboard Linda! :) I live in Brandon, a suburb of Tampa. Been here almost 15 years and still hate it. I'm a country girl and will never accept this city life but gotta do what you gotta do when it comes to jobs. There are quite a few of us in Florida that camp together when we can. A great bunch of people! You will love this forum...wonderful people with lots of helpful knowledge.

I hope we get a chance to camp together one day. :vroom:

Welcome Linda. My Dad lives up in Dixie County in Old Town. Got a Cousin that works at UofF in Gainsville. I spent last winter down there in an RV park on the Suwannee River.... Love the area...
