Nooblet from Utah

Well, I guess I will start with introductions.

I'm a prolonged student with little money, a desire for adventure and known for being a bit anachronistic. "Eccentric" is how some might describe me.

Yesterday I saw a very rough teardrop for sale on the side of the road. "Make Offer" was what the sign said, so I did. Unfortunately the seller didn't like it and thought he could get more (and he's probably right). The little trailer was in rough shape with discolored skin, faded frame and fender paint, horrible galley and terrible interior.

I've been thinking about a teardrop for some time and going back and forth between one and a pop-up tent-trailer. After climbing inside that rough little trailer, I realized that it was all I would ever need. Hell, I've slept out under the stars before, I don't need a bunch of amenities!

So I've got the idea in my head for a small, lightweight, compact and clever little camper to tow behind my X-Terra.

I don't want much, so far my list of wants is as follows:
- LED lighting to prolong battery life = preferably both red and white
- taller suspension and larger wheels for off-road use
- Exterior LED illumination for the campsite - preferably amber or red.
- Long enough to fit my 6'4" tall body and wide enough for me to sleep next to my girl.
- A place for a small Coleman stove.

That's all I really want, a place off the ground and out of the wet that won't fall down if I happen to get some late spring or early fall snow.

I have absolutely zero experience with this kind of fabrication, but I think I can get my friend with a large RV-sized garage to help me out with a place to work.

My goal is to end up with a modified or custom trailer that can handle following my X-Terra over some rough terrain and eventually make the trip to Alaska and back.

I'm going to shut up now and go take a look at what other people have built to get some ideas of where to source a chassis and such.[/list]
