Hey Yall

Hey yall from East Texas. I just got onto this site a few weeks ago when I was researching teardrops. I have learned a bunch in this time and seen quite a few builds and construction techniques on this forum. The teardrops seem easy enough to build and seems like there are million ways to build em.

I have a Coleman popup but really want hard sides. I was looking at TD's because of their simplicity. They are a bit tight and my wife and I want to do some heavy duty traveling, say 3 to four weeks out on teh road. We are gonna retire in January and paln to travel a lot.

One of the reasons for a TD is we currently have a Rav4 with a 3K tow limit and dont want to step up to a bigger rig just yet for the traveling. We even toyed with the idea of being full timers on the road and still might.

I might buy a used one at first because of time issues and the cost is pretty good compared to building a new one. Of course in building one the benifit is you get to customize it and the drawback is you get to customize it.

So I go into thinking mode for now. CYALL

Welcome to the forum...

I have heard of guys full timing it in a t@b. So if you want to purchase something under 3000 pounds, that's an idea.

If you want to save a little money, you could build a giant teardrop, like I did.

My album is here...

be sure to check out all 13 pages...

Plans sets are they any good?

Postby Bubba the Hut » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:56 pm

I have been contemplating buying plans such as Woody's to look at and see if they would present some good ways to build. Woody says he has built a buncha TD's and of course says his plansets are the best.

I think that buying a set would get all the information in one handy spot. I could possibly search and find all the techniques and such but it takes time I may not bne willing to spend; at least for my first one.

So have any of yall done the plans route and do ya think it would be helpful?

Hey Bubba,

Good to have you onboard!

I am currently building teardrop of my design, but can see where building from a set of plans could be beneficial and save time and headaches. Take a look at the Generic Benroy Plans on this site. The price is right - free - and it is a great looking teardrop.

If you haven't already, swing by the South Central section of this board. There are many teardroppers in our area.
