Hello from San Jose, CA!

I've been lurking here for at least a year, and I finally decided to register. My name's Scot, and one of my hobbies involves a LOT of camping. I presently car-camp, but being that my car is a '91 Miata I'm a bit short on room to bring camping gear. BTW, that hobby is working as a race flagger; I'm an SCCA member.

A couple years ago I began thinking about building a small trailer I could pull behind the Miata. I mentioned this to someone I know from another forum, who referred me here along with giving me a link to Andrew's trailer design page. I've settled on the motorcycle tent trailer design from Andrew's page, modified to fit on a 40" x 48" Harbor Freight trailer. I used one of these for several years as a cargo trailer in my autocrossing days to haul my race tires.

I'm still a few months from starting construction, as I have a couple maintenence items on the car that come first, but I think I'll be able to begin construction this winter.

Welcome Scot... I'm new around here also. I look forward to watching your build.

BTW, I used to play with the SCCA crowd. I did quite a few trips/schools/races, back in the day... Summit Point, Lime Rock and Bridge Hampton. Back then my ride was a, constantly mucked with, RX7. Good times :-)

Welcome to EOC and best wishes with the build!

My first Miata was a '91 (silver) which had 44,000 miles on it after a decade. I've long lamented selling it when I got my 2001 -- the one pictured below. I should have kept both and dedicated the '91 to the track.

Did some camping with the '91. With my pup riding shotgun it was a veritable backpack-on-wheels.

Funny you should mention... my Miata is silver! She had about 95.5K when I bought her in May '99; she's now up to 255K. Still on the original engine and tranny.
