Hello from Ohio

Postby jon p » Sat Sep 18, 2010 3:01 am

Just thought I would tell you all a little about myself. I am a 27 yr old living in the Columbus, OH area. The idea of a tiny trailer actually crossed my mind about a year ago. I was planning a bicycle trip across the USA and thought about building a small sleeper/trailer to pull behind my bike. This year I acheived my goal of riding coast to coast on a bicycle, but went for the tent camping option. If you are interested you can read about my journey at www.pedaltheglobe.com .

I recently ran across tiny trailers online and am now very interested in building one. Personally, I would like to be fully self-sufficent in my tiny trailer. This would include a shower and toilet. I would consider myself anti-claustrophobic although I am sure that is not the proper term. What I mean is I actually enjoy being in tight spaces. I remember as a kid our local library had little cubby holes we could crawl into and read books. I used to stay inside them for hours on end.

I would appreciate it if some of you could link me to builds that included showers and toilets.

Best regards,
Jon

You have us all guessing ! Are you talking about a bicycle trailer equiped with potable water tanks and greywater tanks and black water tanks. A bit much to ask ain't it ?

Just what ARE you planning to pull this with?

I am sure you are aware these creature comforts can be provided with a 14 pound porta potty and a 2-3 gallon pump up garden sprayer weighing in at a couple of pounds empty. If you are still peddle powered these pounds all add up. Perhaps replacing the heavier porta potty with a 5 gallon bucket equiped with 2 lids. This combo would come in about 4 pounds. Cut the center out of 1 lid and mount a conventinal wood seat and leave the 2nd intact to snap on for transport. Heavy weight plastic bag liners and some kitty litter would be possible added refinements.

Since you are new here , ~~Here are a couple refinments on peddle power for giggles ....

It appears I may have wrote that badly. I was just telling about the bicycle trip to tell a little about myself and how I got the idea of tiny trailers. This trailer will be pulled by my car.

At the top in the menu is a search button. I haven't totally figured it out because wording seem to be all important but it will help to find a lot of the info you will be looking for.

I am actually thinking about not doing a standie. My thinking is to make it where the bathroom section will manually or mechanically extend out of the roof about 2ft when I park the trailer somewhere.

OOPS I was hunting pics when you posted.

How about a pull out privacy room. Many of us have incorporated these to hop out of a small tear and pull on your pants. I have used it as a surround for the porta potty. I personally have never had the need to shower I do put on some hot water and grab a wash cloth and take care of the stinky parts but a shower can wait till I get home. I guess if we were out longer than 2-3 days I am sure I would change my mind.

This solved our problem with the teardrop

plan carefully spars can jump in the way

Image Extended ! I left a joint unglued to thread on the curtain.

You might want to weight or fasten the ends of the curtain or your porta potty could be showing with the wind.

I experimented with installing a top over the pull out privacy room it worked well and was severely tested in a worm drowning rain at our spring gathering last year
