VERY newbie from Louisiana

Postby itlives » Fri Nov 05, 2010 8:11 am

About me (cause it's all about me, right?)
54 y.o. -closer to 55 than 54
VW nut job and President of the local club (for what it's worth :? )
I own a 1974 VW Westfalia , 1971 VW Single cab, 1977 Alfa Romeo Spider
The Westy is set up for camping- solar powered accessories - fridge, sink and stereo. Also has a propane stove.
1971 Single cab is in the "rebuild" stage soon to on the road.
Alfa is the wife's.....very cool car!

Now, I do have something that brought me here. I got a 1950's Allstate one-wheel trailer. Has anybody in here ever built a tear drop on a one wheel frame ? It doesn't have the box, just the complete frame and wheel.

This site is cool! It has alot to offer even people without a tear drop if you like camping- which I LOVE :applause:
We're going this weekend up to Queen Whilhelmena State Park in Arkansas. We love the Ark- OK area.
Ouchita National Forest has plenty of clear running clean streams. I've been going up there every year since 1974.

Well, that's me.

Welcome to the forum ! And the "South Central " group, come camping with us sometime. Beavers Bend is on the books for late March . We have the whole park.

I'm actually jumping on a motorcycle with a friend and another couple , were riding to Lake Wister and the TaliMena drive this weekend . Wish the colors were better.

Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

itlives

welcome to the forum

I had a '61 MicroBus with the split seats (passthrough) and sunroof
boy wish I had that now....oh well sure can't aford one now.

as to the single wheeler, I have seen discussions that talked about them, but I don't believe I have seen one with much more than the pop-ups on one

ya might want to post the sam question on the "Construction Tips" forum to more stops down the index

Ya know, If ya keep it more to the size of a motorcycle tear (sleeping compartment only) ya might be on to something, keep us posted

again welcome

Welcome to the group. We are also new to the group. We just went to our first gathering in north Louisiana and enjoyed it very much. We 5 X 10 have a home made teardrop and we love to camp in it.

Welcome!

We just had our big gathering of the year right in your backyard -- Lake Bisteneau State Park. We filled almost every campsite in the park. That was just two weeks ago.

You'll just have to come next year!

Aww MAN! I could'a come out and met a few of you anyway! My mom and dad live just around the corner from the park!
Like you say- next year. I hope to have my little one-wheel Allstate trailer fixed up a bit by then.

By the way, is there a way (thread) to track where the campouts are happening?

Hi itlives,

Welcome to T&TTT, a friendly and interesting place!

Since you are interested in, or planning on a single wheel TD,
here is a link for at least the single wheel aspect of it. Heilite
did a very basic tent trailer camper with a single wheel.

http://www.singlewheel.com/

Quite an interesting site in its self.

Watching the weight and frontal area should make a hard walled
TD very possible I should think.

Cheers,

Norm/mezmo

Always like to see more VW nuts on here. We will be working on our 66 ex Sundial camper this winter so it can pul our tear. If you could post a pic of the trailer I am somewhat familiar with them. I have one that has the metal box and from what I have found is from '50 to '55. I know that there was a manufacture that did make a tent trailer. I think it was a Helite, spelling is probably wrong. You can also check out singlewheel.com. There is a lot of info and pic on the site.

Thanks for the info guys. I will check them out.

George- Are you on TheSamba? I don't post there much anymore but used to quite a bit. VW's rock! I'm probably going to be pulling the trailer with my '71 Single cab.

Welcome itlives!

If you scroll down the front page to "South Central" under "Campings, Gatherings and Official Communication.." There you'll see outings for our region (Texas, Louisianna, Oklahoma, Arkansas & New Mexico.)

I'm still a newby myself - been working on my teardrop for two years - but have attended several events and tent-camped at one. Join us if you can.

Yes I am. Just put a add on there for some bus side panels I imported from the UK.
