Coming out of my camper shell

Postby bdag » Thu Feb 17, 2011 5:11 pm

I have lurked this site off and on for years and finally decided to take the plunge. I have camped once in the back of my pickup with the aluminum shell on. Awful experience. Even with the sliding windows open it was raining inside by morning. My plan is to build a tiny trailer over the next few months as a personal camper and prototype for a small time business that I would like to start. I want to say in advance thank you for all of your experience and knowledge and to the site admin for not blocking photos from non-users.

I am 34 with a wife and 2 kids (1 more on the way!). I have chickens, ducks, cats, a dog and a vegetable garden. I have spent most of my professional life sitting at a desk drafting and I can feel it wearing on my mind and body. I need to do something sweat producing.

If I may be so humble (and hopefully I laid down enough of an intro that you won't see me as a one-time poster looking to grab help and leave) I would like to mention that I have entered into a contest to possibly win a large amount of capital to help start this business. I would need to rent/buy warehouse space, purchase some more tools, and get going with materials. As many materials and trailer frames as possible would be salvaged. Every trailer would be unique and a tribute to craftsmanship (something I need to build up to). As a bonus, somewhere around 10% of my profits would go to Habitat for Humanity and this forum.

If you have a Facebook account and would like to see some pictures and  *ahem* perhaps possibly maybe vote for me (which you can do daily) please check out http://apps.facebook.com/dockerswearthe ... ries/14591 . Thanks for your consideration on that end.

I look forward to posting pictures and ideas of my builds here. I hope to start in the next few weeks as soon as I can find a suitable trailer to build on. The weather will also need to cooperate as my work space is my driveway and a small covered patio. Oh, and that current 9-5 job won't allow much free time. We'll see how she goes!

Welcome to the forum bdag.I live over here on the dry dusty side of the state. I wish you all the luck and look foreward to see some of your ideas. P.S. I think there might be a problem with your facebook link.
