Hi everyone. My wife and I are the new owners of a canned ham trailer.
Image

We're excited to finally have taken the plunge into trailer camping after all these years. Tent camping is all well and good, but that ground gets harder every year!
Image

As you can see from these photos, she appears to be in pretty good overall, external, shape.
Image

The previous owners (family members we like), tell us that everything is working. Not that there's much to work. :)
Image

But I've got a couple of problems I could sure use some help with. One's annoying, the other is a bit more problematic.
Image

First off, We don't know who made the trailer, the model name or the year it was made.
Image

Which leads directly to problem two. No tag, no title. We know we can get that taken care of with the VIN#, but we can't find the dang thing. So, I'm hoping these photos will help a little. Its my hope that someone on this forum has had this problem and can give us a pointer on how to figure this out.
Image

In the meantime, we'll start cleaning our new toy up. And counting the days until summer when we can (hope, hope) take it to the lake and sleep somewhere that won't cause us to groan when we wake up!

Thanks, guys for your site. And thanks to everyone who is sharing their wisdom with those of us who hope to follow their lead and enjoy the great outdoors with a bunch of friendly, like-minded folks.

Welcome to the forum. Cute trailer, I've seen that paint scheme here before, so I'm sure someone can help identify your trailer. The VIN# should be on the tongue, it may be covered with paint, but it should be there. You're welcome to join us at any of the gatherings, there's always room for one more, or two, or three.....
Have fun with your new trailer,
Rick

I can help with the vin number it is on the hitch [ scrape off the paint] on the same side as the door is, the trailer is a Cardinal,15 ft, 1957, rounded cabinets, the yellow stove is what i have found is in most 57 Cardinals. looks like you have a lot of work cut out for you.ours had the same color scheme only black and white found the colors after removing all the windows . also you can go on-line and do a search for location of s/n for vintage trailers
here is a picture of mine

VIN info

Postby jbraden » Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:19 pm

Thanks for the info. Now all I need is the time to get out there and scrape off the rust. :( And thank you MV for the model info. Very appropriate. My high school alma mater were the Cardinals. And, yeah, we've got some work ahead of us. But its the kind of thing my wife and I like to do. Never done it on a trailer before. But, there's a first time for everything. And I can tell judging by the posts that I've seen on this forum, we will have plenty of information to assist us should we have a problem. Can't wait to get started. We'll keep you updated!

Welcome from this Okie girl !!!! We have a big gathering at Beavers Bend the end of March... you should consider coming even if you need to rent a cabin , but come see a bunch of campers and meet some great people! We have the whole Buckeye chapter and it's sort of the opener to our camping season.

Good luck with the restoration!

Jbraden, Remember to check on gatherings in the North Centrals list also due to proximity of several to you.
We have a small sub group called KAMO....meaning loosely translated, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma.
Look forward to seeing your cardinal out sometime this year. Queenie Jeanne........Former Okie now 31 years in Branson Missouri makes a little difference.
HEY a tiny trailer. Whatever it takes.
