Newbie from PA

Postby Gracie'sMommy » Tue Jul 12, 2011 9:23 am

Hi, all!
I have been lurking in the background of a few teardrop forums for a while, now. I finally decided to take the plunge and get one of my very own! I am currently looking to buy one (and am trying to buy one that is listed for sale in this very forum!)
My name is Lori, and I live alone with my dog (Gracie) and cat. My Gracie travels everywhere with me!
I am an avid scuba diver (IN WESTERN PA!!!), so I travel a lot. I try to camp as much as possible when I am diving.
I have recently been diagnosed with cancer, and after surgery and treatments, tent camping has become a bit too much of a challenge for me. Not enough energy left to dive after setting up camp! Lol!
So my doggie and I are going to try the teardrop way of life. I'm sure we will love it, and the people here all seem like such an awesome group of people!!! I can't wait to have my very own trailer, and join the fun!
Thanks to the creators of this site, and thanks everyone here, for being so great :)

Welcome...you've found a great forum. My husband is from western PA...Irwin, actually. We visit his family there often, and are headed there this weekend.

Keep us posted on your TD hunt. Hope you find the perfect one soon.

Well...today was a sad day for my pocketbook! :(
Title transfers for an out of state vehicle are made nearly impossible for Pennsylvania residents!!!
I jumped through all the hoops that Pennsylvania told me I had to;
1) go to notary (in my case, AAA) to get Title Transfer Application.
2) go to gravel yard (yep! That's where I had to take my little girl! No one else in this county can do it!!!) to get the TD weighed, and the TD/car weighed.
3) take proof of weight to a third place (the mechanic) to get the TD inspected (even though she just was, in NY)
4) THEN...drive all the way back to the first place to submit the APPLICATION...that, theoretically, can be denied by the state.
Congatulations! I just spent $600 (MORE) to find out I have a 1600# trailer! Funny...it weighs 1450. :QM

I can NOT wait to take her camping this weekend! I need to chillax after this week! Lol!! :icedtea:

Lori

I cant believe that they charged you $600 dollars for that. :?
Your state must be desperate for funds?

At least that's over with and now you can start having fun.
Don't forget we like to see photos.
I guess I also have to change my avatar.

Like I told you, Wayne...PA makes as big of a deal out of everything as they can!
I do have to admit, part of it was tax...that'll get ya every time!
I bought my car in Ohio, and had the same thing happen.
Only difference; it was new, so I didn't have to transfer titles...just get a new one.

You're right...it's over, and no matter what...it was worth it.
I just hope there are no more "glitches" and I get my title!!! *fingers crossed* :worship:

600 bucks?!? that's craziness! $>

i just registered mine a few weeks ago here (missouri) and all they needed was the certificate of origin, bill of sale, and about 70 bucks for the title, taxes, license plate & 2 year tags for the plate... no inspection, no weight or anything. i even called the state troopers to see if they'd need to inspect it after i'm finished building and the cop said, "it's a 5 x 8? you can put whatever the hell you want on that..."

anyway, sorry about your hassles but congrats on the trailer and welcome from a fellow noob!

kent

Congratulations to both of you on the sale and purchase of what I consider to be one of the most beautiful teardrops I've had the opportunity to see in person! Wayne did a beautiful job on it. Lori I hope to meet up with you around the campfire in your new little beauty sometime. I usually camp a couple times a year with the Liberty Bell Tear Jerkers so maybe we'll get to cross paths. May you have many happy HEALTHY years of travels in your new toy!

You bought Wayne's beautiful teardrop ?! (I originally posted 'woody' there and decided that sounded, well, wrong)

You got a good one. Ed and I kept toying with trying to figure out how the two of us could deal with 2 TDs - that one was SO beautiful!

Congratulations and welcome!
