Hello from So Cal

Postby GeenGrey » Fri Aug 05, 2011 10:27 pm

Hi everyone. We're Erik and Geenie. We live in the OC with our menagerie of kids and pets. We've always enjoyed camping, but have never been too successful at it with the whole family. Trailers and RVs always seemed like a lot of fun, but most of them are so darn monstrous and just never seemed to suit our sensibilities. Recently we learned about small trailers and completely fell in love. We figure if a couple married for almost two decades both get so excited about something, it's worth pursuing.
At this point we are still in the learning stage, but itching to get out on the road. Our favorite style are the canned hams. The curves are just wonderful. Old Shastas, Jewels, and their ilk seem particularly appealing. Teardrops are wonderful too, but we'd prefer a bit more height, an inside galley and dinette and the ability for at least some of our kids to be able to sleep inside with us. Gypsy wagons also have a real charm, tugging at Geenie's artistic side.
We hope to buy or build very soon and this forum has already given us so much information and inspiration. Now it's just a matter of getting it done.

Hi Erik and Geenie,

Welcome to the fun. There is a get together up near Lake Hemet for teardrops and tiny trailers the weekend of August 12. Great place to get ideas and see all kinds of trailers. Just follow the link below.

Thanks for the invite. Unfortunately we've got houseguests and a big birthday for two of our kids this weekend. Maybe we can make it next year trailer in tow :)

Thanks for the nice welcomes. We actually have ended up moving pretty fast. Last night we went out to Fontana to check out some TTTs a guy out there had for sale. He seemed to specialize in old mobile homes and large trailers, but had three TTTs on the lot. I got the impression that he kind of just wanted them gone. The first was a 10ft Traveleze that was in really horrible condition. Next was a 12ft Aristocrat that was pretty hideous too. In the back corner was a 15ft pink and white guy that looked relatively decent on the outside. Inside wasn't too bad either. Some old water damage and fairly dirty, but a lot of nice wood and a greasy, but cute, Princess oven. After doing a very long and thorough inspection inside and outside (under and on top too), we made an offer and are now the happy owners of our very own trailer.

It turns out to be an Oasis. Probably '57 - '61 based on the shape (rounded back with no "air foil"). The trailer is about 15ft for a total of 18ft from butt end to tip of the hitch coupler. It's a foot too long for our driveway, but the round back should give us just enough to work with to get it under the garage fascia and avoid hassles from the city. We've got a long list of things to fix, but the "camping ready" list is reasonably short. The better half will get some pictures up soon and we'll start a new thread to detail the fixing up.

We are soo excited and can't wait to see some of you out there at the campgrounds.
