I joined a week or two ago and already can't get enough! Became interested in this after seeing something on the web and then discussing with my son the memories of camping as a kid (mostly tent, but eventually upgraded to a home-built pop-up camper), as well as the usefulness of these as an evacuation support for our family (hurricanes aren't fun).

He was thinking for a senior project that he could build one (maybe he'll let me help) as a inexpensive and economical (mileage-wise) family evac "tool". In an evac, finding a place to stay (i.e. motels) can be pretty tricky if a good size population is involved. This led us to the "foamies".

I've been trying to read up, and might just have to try one out ourselves, if I can get rid of the Miata taking up valuable build space...

My wife and I grew up in Palm Bay, we go back on occasion.

There was a girl on here from California who built a teardrop for her senior project. We met her, I have pictures of it somewhere.

Thanks! We moved here ourselves about 7 years ago from Wisconsin, and although we do miss the Wisconsin "community", we are happy to do without the winters (and natural gas bills) now.

If you ever run across those pictures, I'm sure we're not the only ones that would like to see them. It might inspire my son (although inspiring him with "engineering" isn't a problem -- now language arts, that's another thing).
