Need a T or TTT to tow stuff behind my truck camper.

I was looking for designs and found this site. Wow! There has to be something here that will work for me.

I have a slide-in truck camper but need to carry more stuff. I'd like to build something for my Harbor Freight 4x8 1080lb trailer--preferably something I could remove to retain the flat bed utility, when needed. It's impossible to keep the dust and grit from grinding away at my belongings when hauling with the un-enclosed trailer. Keeping the grit out when driving on gravel roads is my main objective. I carry things like bicycles, a generator, and a portable air conditioner so it makes sense to build a large enclosure.

Originally, I thought I'd be able to find some kind of very large roto molded plastic container to bolt onto the trailer, but I've been unable to locate such an item. It seems like I could just bolt one of the contributor's T&TTT designs (sans an interior) to the 3/4" plywood floor on my HF trailer. I see no reason to move the axle, because I can distribute weight as necessary. Perhaps it makes sense to build something with less than an 8' long footprint, leaving room to strap gerry can's on the back, which are probably best carried outside, though I can always carry them on the tongue too.

Hopefully, I can find something that I can build in a weekend or two, because I have an elk hunt in about a month. Any ideas for simple solutions from members would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Since you're just wanting something to keep the dust off, maybe Plywood floor with a removable foamie? I would say that would be quick, cheap, lightweight and easy to remove. Also would say some nice tie-down method for the larger items so they don;t go crashing through the walls

Thanks, Moho! I've never heard of a "foamie" but it would be pretty easy and cheap to build. I'd definitely need floor tie-down points, as you advised, and I'd lose the ability to put tie-downs on the walls.

Yup--the more I think about it, the more I think there could be a foamie build in my near future! Thanks again, Moho. I would've completely missed this construction technique. I will study the Foamies forum and start posting there. I already have some ideas of my own, but first need to come up to speed on what others have learned and accomplished.

Fascinating!
