Hello from Maryland

Postby will.ringrose » Mon Dec 05, 2011 9:23 pm

Hello Everyone.

I am looking for some design ideas. I was looking to build a small teardrop to pull behind a small car.

The car is a Triumph GT6 MK3. Its a very very small car. 58.5 inches wide and only 47 inches tall.

The Idea is that I want to be able to sleep in it, maybe a really close night with my Girl Friend.

The only thing I really have my heart set on is making it no taller than the car, and no wider.

Looking for any ideas or help.

Thanks and I am looking forward to my future build.

From what I gather, you can make your TD any size you want to. Happy building.

:) Hello WillRR from Maryland and welcome.
You have a wonderful car (I love sports cars) and will need a light build. You will probably want to build something that pops up for additional height and less weight in metals/wood.

You should consider looking through the threads which have small vehicle and motorcycles pulling TDs. I saw a great small build for a motorcycle ( with photos), but I can't remember exactly where it was on the forum......think it was called the Idaho bedroll. Also, check out the thread for alternate builds and on traditional designs for people who pull with bikes such as Triker (Jerry) might be able to make some more suggestions.

Have fun planning and building,
Joanie

Go up to the top of this page to the Design Library and check out the Pico Light.

And welcome to the forum from another Marylander. I am currently building the generic Benroy, but we are using a Jeep for a tow vehicle so this design would likely be larger/heavier than what you are looking for. There are tons of ideas out there though.

Roly Nelson would be an excellent person to confer with as he has great ideas for lightweight builds and you might want to take a look at his 1/4 Nelson

Everyone here is extremely kind and helpful, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them. And HAVE FUN!!!

DEFINITELY check out Roly's build. It is a type which is right up your alley! and Roly is a truly devoted teardrop enthusiast with a wealth of information. Also check out the build journal of JonW who is pulling with a Miata a design based upon the ultralight of Mike's.
