Hello from Northern Ca.

Postby Happytears » Mon Mar 12, 2012 12:09 pm

Hello everyone, I have been lurking around for about a month now checking out your site and decided it time to say hello. I am new to all of this and I don't have our tear yet, but I am looking. I don't have any plans to build, I am looking to purchase and I found your site while trying to research these great little campers. What a wonderful site. You all almost have me convinced that I do want to build my own, but I believe that would be fool hardy. I wish I had the time and tools, it sounds like a great project; but, my goal is get one and get out and do some camping!!!!! I am hoping that I will find what I am looking for by May and have hopes of attending the Dam gathering at Lakehead. In the meantime, I am enjoying your posts and this site and learning a lot about tears. So, this is just a shout out from the newbie on the block saying hey.

Welcome! :D

If you don't find a trailer by May, come to the Dam Gathering anyway. Camp in a tent; rent a trailer; rent one of the Antler Resort cabins; or, just come for the day!

Thank you, I think I just might do that. So, it's not frowned upon to show up in something besides a teardrop? That is good news! Are you planning to be at that Dam gathering? Have you been before?

Go to "destinations" under the teardrop friendly websites topic at the top of the page and you will find a description of the event. Everyone is welcome.

Yes, I've been to Antlers Resort several times. The first time, I rented a cabin, not during a gathering (in cold, fall weather). Now that I live so close (30 min), I've been visiting during the gatherings. This year, I might camp, now that my trailer is camp-able. See ya there!

Thank you all for the welcome and advice. I have been watching the "for sale" section of this forum and looking in every other place that I can think of to look. Some very nice td's out there that are way out of my price range, some others that are nice and priced right for us ,but missing some features and/or accessories that I think I am looking for. I am thinking a 5 (if not a 6) wide with plenty of storage in the galley and a little T.V. inside to help me persuade my husband that he really does want to come along and he won't miss that game if he does. And, then, there are some td's I've seen that just plain scare me. I don't have the tools, time, or know how to go there, but, it's out there, that right one; I'll know it when I see it, and I just can't wait. I'm getting really excited. This is almost like Christmas! So, I'll see you at that Dam Gathering, what should I bring to share? :D

Also, you might try calling Grant (530-242-6452) as he may know of teardrops for sale that might be posted in other places or even not yet posted for sale.

Welcome to the forum, Happytears. If you do decide to come to the Dam Gathering, be sure to bring a gift for all of the 100 or so attendees, we just love gifts from Newbies...........Naw, just kidding, just bring your hubby along and once he has met all of the friendly teardrop and vintage trailer folks, he'll never go back to watching a game, instead of attending a great Gathering. Hey, you might even enjoy a bite of some of the great food that will be served up in those many dutch ovens. Be aware, those folks at the Dam Gathering are unlike any campers you have ever seen. You'll be offered coffee by strangers, asked to come and sit by the campfire and shown dozens of trailers that are all open for you inspection, no fooling! So, come on over, I'm looking forward to meeting you, I'll be the quiet one sitting alone inside my tiny teardrop, avoiding all of the lookee-lews...........yeah, right! Just look fot the goofy wooden satelite dish on the roof. Welcome aboard, and by the way, do you want sugar and cream?
8)  Roly, So Calif TDer and anti-socialist.......NOT!

Good Morning Roly, way to make a newbie feel welcome....thanks. I am really looking forward to that Dam gathering. I just can't wait; tent, trailer, minivan....I'm there. I am looking forward to meeting you too. Sounds like a great group of people. And the gift thing, well, I can't make up my mind, whatchamacallits, or thingamabobs. Which do you think everyone might like? So, just saying hello, and oh, cream and sugar definitely, I'll bring the biscotti.
Have a great day,
Dee(Happytears)

we will be at the Dam too! If you are looking to buy and not build, check out the new posting by dguff, jerome, for a Dougkraft woody. It is a mighty fine trailer I have seen in person, built by one the admins on this board who has built I think 5 trailers now. Well worth the money up in Eureka CA. check it out in the for sale section, just posted on the 16th.
