Hello from Iowa

This past winter I got the "crazy" idea that I wanted to build my own TTT. Soon after, I stumbled upon this site and have picked up a lot of ideas and valuable information. I had a local trailer builder make me a frame and after a long month's wait, I was finally able to pick it up yesterday. It is a very well made frame with 3500 lb axle, electric brakes, 15" tires and break away braking system. I weighed the trailer and it is 540 lbs. My TTT will be 6.5' X 10' with an interior height of about 75". It will have a full bath with shower, toilet and sink. There will be a small kitchen area, room for a small dinette area and then across the back of the trailer will be the twin size bed. I think everything should fit in the small space. I'm keeping everything all electric because I don't want to deal with gas. I will be using a WFCO 45 amp converter and will have the trailer wired with both 110 ac and 12 volt dc outlets. Plan on using 12 volt LED lighting. The water heater will be a 6 gallon electric and the refrigerator/freezer a dorm type size. A small air conditioner that I can slide through the wall should keep things cool during the summer. Since my all electric design relies on having shore power, I'll have to tough it out if I can't get electrical service. I may have to look into getting a small generator to use in those situations. I have started to put the wooden floor on the frame (1/2 inch pressure treated plywood with 3/8 inch plywood on top of that), and have run into my first of probably many, many problems and setbacks. The steel frame is very hard to drill into and I broke 2 bits and barely made a dent in the metal. Tomorrow I am going to a place in town that sells industrial type tools and get some very good drill bits. I will take pictures of the progress and plan to post them as time goes on. Wish me luck. :)

Welcome to the forum. I notice that you are having problems drilling into your frame for mounting your floor. I used Tek screws, which are self-drilling, and are harder than the metal of your frame. I used an 18v 3/8" drill, so a corded 1/2" drill motor would be even better, if you don't have a high-dollar Snap-on/ Milwaukee unit (not mine). In other spots, I used cobalt drill bits to drill thru to mount carriage bolts as well. You also state that you have a pressure-treated plywood base to your floor...beware possible out-gassing from it, and don't rely on it alone for protection from underside water/rot/?insect? damage. Over the last few years, I've noticed that treated wood doesn't hold up very well anymore. The chemicals used are inferior now. I have 20 year old 4x4's that are almost like new, while similarly used 3 year old 4x4's are starting to deteriorate. Go ahead and waterproof the underside of whatever wood flooring you have with tar, undercoating, enamel, porch paint or whatever you choose to use.
