Newbie from TN

Postby levihoward » Tue Sep 11, 2012 4:38 am

Greetings from Tennessee! Been lurking here a while, but have decided it's time to jump in head-first. :) Wanting to "slowly" build a teardrop that I can take my two young boys camping/ fishing/ traveling in, and even perhaps convince the wife that it's almost as nice as a hotel. lol I send my thanks in advance for all the amazing builds, discussions and advice I've already read and look forward to meeting you all!!!

Welcome to the greatest site for building a tt and you need one that will hold 4 and all the camping gear  Well you have come to the right place. If the boys are old enough you can get a side tent for them or build it big enough to keep them inside. Well good luck with the build and remember we love our pics as you get going with the build. Welcome and happy camping

Totally dooable to do one where the whole family can enjoy the trip. FOund that with my trailer I had the wife help pick out the colors and the finishings. makes for a good couple project.

Very cool! Yeah, my wife is not into the camping thing (I think she means tent camping...), BUT, if this were to turn out well and she could see that it was comfortable, homey, etc. I think she'd bite at the memories made with the kiddos. I know that's what I'm hoping for... more chances to invest in family!

THe key is a comfy mattress. Makes teh camping so much nicer. we have a dedicated set of sheets and blankets for the trailer. Took it out and while it was in teh upper 30's in teh morning, in teh trailer it was around upper 50's. we even had the windows open.

Man Forrest, I love it! I'm also intrigued by the extra bunk in your trailer! I have 7 and 3 year-old boys, and I'd love to implement at least one bunk area, knowing that trying to get more than that might be super-tight, and that I might not even travel with both boys together all the time.

I see how a person could get addicted to this... :R

Levi,
It would be supper easy to make an extra bunk and I have seen this arraigment.

Well alot of things come into play with what type of trailer you want to build. What are you pulling it with.
How many to sleep in it. From one upto 6 or more.
What materials to build out of.
Number of doors. 2 for sure. Wife will be happy for sure
What type of roof vent or other ventilation
Electrical 120 volts 12volts solar battery I recommend progressive dynamics jmo
Water tank or jugs or nothing
Cooler storage
Counter space or cabinets in galley
I have no clue how a screwdriver works or master cabinet maker
What camping are u planning. Fair weather only or we take this baby out on the ice and fish from the doors.
The info is here for sure and if its not ask away and a lot of ways to skin a trailer
Also apply rule number 10
Measure twice cut once and pay attention to where your and others body parts are

Right on! There's definitely a LOT of info on here... making my head spin! :? What a resource! And yes, I was raised with "measure twice/ cut once", and being a musician by trade, I'll DEFINITELY be VERY cautious with power tools!

I don't have a TD either but reading the posts here will really educate you as to what to buy and what you may not need. Everyone has different priorities but reading tons of posts will help you to learn "what you DON'T know" so you start educating yourself.

Agreed Techguy. I'm just having a blast making my list of "wants" at the moment, and then searching for what others have done here or learned in the process. A valuable resource, indeed!
