Hello from Australia!

Postby Stinger » Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:43 am

Hi everyone!
Just thought I would introduce myself to everyone. My name is Luke and I live in beautiful Perth, Western Australia! I have enjoyed browsing these forums as a guest for some time, and enjoyed the thought of one day building a tear drop of my own even longer. I think that time is fast approaching.

I hope to build something that I can tow behind my Jeep Wrangler. It won't need to be crazy trail rated, but will need to handle sandy tracks and being towed up beaches, as this is how I love to spend my weekends in the rare event I can get one free!
Does anyone have an existing design, or know of one, that you think may fit my requirements?

While I don't have a great deal of trailer design, I have many years of structural drafting and 3D modelling experience. Drafting and modelling are my passion, and fortunately for me, I am lucky enough to have spent the past 8 years working in this field. Hopefully I can offer some advice and tips to those of you that like to lurk one CAD section of the forums.

Anyway, I am looking forward to getting to know some of you, and hopefully sharing in my tear drop journey!

Hi Luke and welcome to the forum. Check the design resources heading at the top of the page for the FREE generic Benroy plans. Modify them to suit your purposes mate.

Cheers
Paul

PS I'm an Adelaide boy ;) and there is an Australian forum too

Thanks for the welcome Paul. I have the Benroy plans printed out now. I think I will model it up this coming weekend and convert all to metric just as a bit of a familiarisation exercise. Certainly looking forward to the adventures ahead. Any chance of getting a link to the Australian site from you?

Thanks again!

Hi all,

Paul here from beautiful Tasmania. Great to find a few other Aussies in this part of the world that are into teardrops.

We own a white 2011 Build Teardrop called little Bill. Built with a lot of love and we are the third owners. We bought it from Queensland and its done two trips up/back since plus other weekends away.Makes a great guest room in the driveway too!

We know of at least two other teardrops up here in the North West and there will be others too.

Anyway, always happy to talk about these great little things! :)

Hi
I spent months designing my td. It was worth every second when it came to the build.

By drawing standard sized sheets of ply I was able to design around it and limit waste. I went 5' wide 1524mm rather than. 4' because the bed was going to be too narrow.

Consider your skill and tools. If either limited, a geometric design may be ideal, in particular the galley hatch.

The is an active and supportive forum. Enjoy.
