Rookie from Chucktown! South Carolina that is!

OK, I'm done lurking & have started hoarding bits & pieces to put my TD together. I'm building a 5x10, square back style & have decided to incorperate some luxery items to the galley. It'll have a 2 burner stove, water & hot water (6 gal RV water heater) via a 12 gal holding tank, I opted for the 12V/110V refrigerated cooler as well. Up front, AC is a must so I snagged a 5000btu window unit on clearacne in November... got to have one of those in the south. I have picked up an amplified RV roof mounted antenna as well.

Being a 24 year Air Force guy, I fabricate, love to do woodworking, and enjoy NASCAR. The whole intent of this trailer is for my Dad (who's 70) and I to travel to NASCAR races and my son & I to camp out of. I just sold a 29' Fleetwood 5th wheel and want to keep on camping... I'll be pulling this behind my Powerstroke F-250 so weight isn't a concern but I do want to keep it at a minimum for trips behind the Nissan Quest!

I plan on starting the frame fabrication Presidents Day weekend and will post pix as they come available...
Thanks for reading!

Hi Brad, welcome to the forum. What a guy, building a rig that you and your Dad can use while persuing your interests. It sounds like you have plans for some fairly heavy add-ons in your build. We all have to decide what is important and what is not, and I am sure you have given a lot of thought to that end. Stepping down from a 29 ft 5th wheel is a big step, and I am sure you won't regret it. Do plan to enjoy your experience with your Dad and son, and enjoy those races. Be sure to ask any questions you have, and I am sure many will chime in and give you answers. We'll be looking forward to your progress pics, so be sure to post em. Good luck on your build.

Hey Brad

Let me first say thanks for serving. I did 20y my self in the AF.

This sound really nice if you can get your Dad to crawl in a little box to sleep. It would be even better if
your Dad , your and your son can all get a hand in building it. Build it to last and you can always pass it
along, but those memories should outlast everything else

Thanks Roly & Terry... I do have a plan (I think) For the past 15 years or so, I'm grown to be known in our NASCAR circle of friends as the "Cook". The first comments I heard from many of them when they found out I sold the 5er, "What are we going to do about food"? I don't plan on letting them down... this TD is going to incorporate a great kitchen to cook out of and plenty of storage to handle the extra stuff for the races. As for my son & dad helping out, my son, whose 12, has helped me search for ideas and he's excited about getting in the garage to start the build. My dad on the other hand, will more than happily crawl in it to sleep... he can sleep anywhere! He doesnt understand why anyone would sell a 5th wheel and go down in size but I've done so out of practicality. I want something I can hook up and go camping without breaking the bank (fuel cost)... I wish Dad could help me on the build :( but he lives in Zanesville Ohio and only gets down here about once a year. Although this might be a great incentive to get him out of the snow and down here... Thanks again guys for the warm welcome... I plan on using some of your knowledge in my build.
