Help with straight hatches

Postby nhstt » Thu Feb 14, 2013 9:52 am

This Newbie has settled on a profile very like a Serro sportsman Jr. I've decided not to cut in the hatch like the Jr. but to slightly overlap the roof. I'm hoping this will make it easier to keep the hatch dry.posting.php?mode=post&f=40# I'm looking for advise and build threads to similar hatches. Mine will be on a 4x8 harbor frame. Just started taking my pencil drawings into sketch-up will post as soon as their worth looking at. also really need waterproofing ideas. It rains a lot here in N.H.!!

This side shot shows the lack of rain protection with the lid in the up position. The "Vee" formed in the up position makes a very interesting exercise in leak prevention.

When I designed the chuck wagon I was faced with this problem as well. I worked around it by moving the hinge forward and the hatch became an "ell" shaped hatch. Let me find a couple pictures.

Here is a link to the build if it may offer some help. It starts about half way down this page.

That Scotty is mightly pretty though. I wonder if it's the one owned by the fellow from Syracuse who's name I can't remember.
