Can't resist building a Teardrop any longer...

Postby aabowman » Sun Mar 10, 2013 1:35 am

Hello TnTTT world!

I've been interested (semi-obsessed) with teardrops ever since I found out about them (about a year ago). My girlfriend and I saw our 1st teardrops at a gathering of teardroppers (is that a correct term?) at the 2012 LeMay Car Show. That's when we knew we needed to build one! The owners we talked to were more than happy to discuss their trailers and you could tell they were proud of them (and for good reason). It was one of them that pointed me to this website! thanks!

Here is a picture of some of the beautiful tears that inspired us. Maybe you will recognize your trailer!

That's my girlfriend showing how easily she would fit in a teardrop. [she is short!]

So I have been thinking about the features and design of my teardrop for 6+ months and reading lots of posts on this forum. I have read through this nice Instructable several times. Now I am ready to seriously commit to designing one and VERY excited to get started building!

Harbor Freight trailers are on sale right NOW (until the end of March), so I'll probably buy the HF 4' by 8' (folding) trailer and go from there.

And I'll probably have A LOT of questions...

I can't wait to meet up at a gathering!

Welcome! You are going to have SO much fun building your Tear. Did you read through the FREE Generic Benroy plans located at the top of the page? I used them to build my Tear.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I have read through the Generic Benroy plans. They have been (and will be) very helpful throughout the process.

Right off the bat I have realized that steering away from the plans, with a different profile shape, is going to complicate things a bit. haha. but that is half of the fun.... and probably most of the battle. I will explain the first issue on my Build Journal, very soon.

let the scheming begin :twisted:

Welcome to the forums Aron.

Just make sure you have room for your self in that TD. My Lil’ Wood sleeping area is just a few inches taller
then me. I kick the foot board and bottom of the cabinets all the time.

Enjoy your build and keep us posted.

Welcome to forum and the madness. Steering away from the plans is not so much of a problem as you would think. Everyone does it at some point or another. A lot of people don't use plans at all. They just start with an "idea" of what they want and go for broke. The method involved in putting it together is going to be the same regardless of the profile you choose. It's really such a simple structure (if you want it to be) that it's ideally suited for "seat of the pants design." That's a huge part of the appeal. When you are done you will have something uniquely you, one of a kind.

You will be able to find answers here on the forum to pretty much any question that will come up. Everyone is very kind, generous with their time and knowledge, and anxious to help you out.

Have fun!!
Life is sooooo good.........
