Just bought my Teardrop Trailer today. Portland, Oregon

Postby daleroller » Tue Mar 19, 2013 10:56 pm

:) Hello Everybody. I finally bought my teardrop trailer today. I was originally planning on having a teardrop trailer built for me, but after dealing with two carpenters they both flaked out on me and I gave up my dream for awhile. http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=50450
The teardrop I bought is pretty old, like 1940's era. It was abandoned in a barn until someone pulledc it out and sold it to me. It is made out of stainless steel we think. It is heavy, but I can lift it up. I will be towing it with a four cylinder 2000 VW Cabrio.
It is pretty dirty and require quite a bit of restoration. The body does not leak and is in great shape. I need to find a locksmith that can rekey or replace all of the locks.

Wow!
Great Find! :applause:
Get out your magnet.....then you will know if it is Stainless or not???
I think you will have more fun with this restoration than a new build!

Stainless or is it surplus aluminum? Both were available about that time and both may be heavy due to
the thicknesses they used.

Well, it has a back hatch that opens to the galley, but there are only a few old metal shelves left back there now. I will have to completely redo the kitchenette area with wood. I am excited about my new Mobile Man Cave.

Nice find. Take your time with it and your have a nice teardrop. Some time it is harder to remodel
something rather than building from scratch.

But it definitely has potential.

It looks to me like a late 1940's Tourette in pretty much original condition. Definitely all aluminum. I can't recall ever having seen or heard of an early teardrop being done in stainless steel. You can google Tourette for more info or do a search on this site.

Thanks for the advice guys. I do believe this is a 1940's era Tourette. I did some surfing on the web and found an original advert for one. The galley is exactly like mine and well as the all aluminium windows. I hope to have this baby campworthy in about a months time.

We pulled the body off of the trailer two days ago. I hope to have new floorboards this weekend.

Did you find this without a title? It is a 1947 Tourette out of Colorado if it is the same seller.

I just sold my 1947 Tourette Teardrop Trailer project today to a man from Shelton, WA. The trailer has been sitting in my back yard for a year now collecting dust because I didn't have the time or the know how to restore it. I was never able to camp in it. But that is OK.

I bought my new home built Teardrop Trailer today. It is a beautiful 4' X 8' woody, with red trim and a roof vent. The guy who built it did a really nice job. I can't wait to get camping in it. I will post up some pictures tomorrow. :D
