My son (16) and two of his friends want a summer project and are going to build a teardrop trailer. As a general designer and overseer, I'll help them but essentially they will have a great learning experience for them. The idea is to base it on a standard 8x4 sheet and create it on a shoestring. I've 16 sheets of ¼” ply, surplus decking, a workshop full of bits and bobs, and boxes of camping kit.
I've spent years building houses (SIPS) and have put together a teardrop design using sketch-up: now on version 5! The initial versions cramped the kitchen. I’ll post a few sketchup images when I can work out how to do it. (RTFM….)
Rather than re-invent a wheel and struggle with the details, I've found the website very useful in the design of the trailer so far.
There is a lot of overlap with aircraft building websites, I almost started a build when I bought an Avidflier. There are significant differences but there is a lot that overlaps (tools and suppliers) particularly when you look at building a VANs aircraft. http://www.vansairforce.net/
I’m looking for a freebee shell of a caravan and we’re based in Dunfermline, Scotland. Started with freecycle and will put the word out. Failing that there is a place called caravan heaven in Falkirk.
