Allow me to introduce myself my name is George Cardona, I'm excited to be part of the forum.
It's seems like their is a great comradity going on in this forum and I would like to be part of it.

I'm exploring my options on which teardrop to build, and i want to thank you all for your postings. They are very informative!

I have a question, for those of you who have built a 4x8 do you find it to be to small?

Best Regards,
George Cardona

THe 4x8 i have seen is too small for a couple. For a single person yes its just right. take the time and energy to make it 5 wide and with two doors you will not regret it. Mock it up or put tape on the ground and see how it feels.

Welcome Welcome, I started to build a 4x8 and everyone said the same thing to me so........I experimented I slept on a twin bed for a week then went to my sons and slept on his queen bed and thought about the fact I planned to take a long vacation and the queen won out. I am single but the thought of being in a little area for a month didn't appeal to me. with the larger area you can have your suitcase and other comforts of home you really want. A couple of books and staying in there for a rain storm is really confining and more so in 4 feet wide. I set up my foam board that's how I know.

so Welcome and really read as much as possible so you can really make what you want to meet your needs.

Welcome to the forums.

The mock-up idea is the best to help you decide your needs. I’m 5’ 6” and could stand to lose a few pounds, My TD is build up on a 4X8 sheet of plywood. The inside sleeping area is 5’ 10” long by 3’ 9” (46.5”). I think that is a tad too tight for a couple, but I did alright on the 22 day trip I just took just me and my dog Dottie. She has her own dedicated sleeping area. The 5’10” long does bite a bit because my air mattress is 4 inches longer so it does not inflate right and I do sleep with my arms under my pillow or over my head so it is tight. The TD was used or I would've made it at least 75” Standard mattress length.

I’m Planning a 5x9.5 in the near future but I can make due with my 4X8 woody for another year or two.

If you are trying to pinch pennies, and plan on building it more quickly, go for the 4 ft wide. Also, unless you are planning on full-timing in your teardrop, but just camping in it for a few days at a time, I am sure that a 48 inch wide bed is plenty wide. I have been sleeping in my 4 footer for over 10 years, and I have even down-sized to smaller 40 inch wide tears. To each his own, however, if you have some future intentions to be sharing that teardrop with "someone else", I guess it would be advisable to spend the bucks and go for a 5 wide. Good luck on your build.
