Newbie from Fallon, NV

Greetings all! I've been following your forums here for the past year or more and finally decided to sign up now that I have committed to building a TD. I am currently in the U.S. Navy and the Command Master Chief at NSAWC home of "TOPGUN" yep the one form the movie and I'll be retiring from the Navy next month. My kids are all grown and out of the house and I don't have to many bills so once the TD is built I the wife and I plan on traveling the country for the next year or so in the TD. My tow vehicle is a 1999 Jeep XJ that I bought for $900 last winter that had a blown head gasket. The head gasket is replaced and a OME subtle lift on it and most of the minor repairs now done I am getting ready to start building my TD.

The goal is an off road TD in the same style at the ones from Adventure Trailers. I talked to the folks at AT on Monday and they will be making the frame for me with the trailing arm suspension. Also getting the floor storage and a 19 gallon water tank. Suppose to take 6-8 weeks to get it done and can hardly wait to get started with the rest of the build.

So, I am sure I will be crawling all over the forums over the next month or two and sharing all the build photos and progress with everyone and then I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can out on the trail!

Welcome to the forums.

And thanks for serving. My brother did 4 years Marine, Father 28 Air Force, and I retired 7 year ago with 20y 1M 7D’s ( not like anyone was counting but me and finance office ) in the Air Force. Ya Adventure Trailers makes a nice teardrop but like most of them $$$. You did tell them you're making a TD right? so you get the their bigger trailer chassis and not the tent trailer chassis. Just checking, hate to see a little stubby trailer show up at your door. Gl look picking out the design of TD you want to build. That is the first big hurdle to get over, next is letting the wife know you are going to build and then getting a trailer. Sound like you got the last two covered.

I live in Fallon and just finished an aluminum clad teardrop. Randy and Debbie (Nevadatear) loaned me the Steve Fredericks build manual that was indispensable and i also borrowed heavily from the aggie79 Silver Beatle build. I am sure Randy and Debbie wouldn't mind me loaning the build manual so give me a PM if you are interested. I started mine last spring thinking it would take a couple of months. It took almost a year. Good luck and give a yell if you need help with anything.
