Hello Everyone

Postby jhtitan » Tue Jul 09, 2013 7:22 am

Hello,
My name is Jon I live in MO near St. Louis. I have been lurking for a bit, reading everything I can. I have found "The One" well for me anyway. I am going this weekend to look at a pop-up camper frame. it has wheels and is tow ready. So I may have a base to start building on this weekend.

I am a tool and die designer I work primarily in Solidworks but a bit in Autocad and most recently Draftsight. I have already started modeling my tear in solidworks and will get the design complete before I start building.

I have also been designing and flying rc planes for a few years (Foamies) and I have built my own CNC router that will be used in this build as well.

I wanted to do this for a few months now but the wife wasn't on board with the idea. Then we went camping again, we had a blast and she wants to start going more often. Well after that I brought it up again and she is totally on board with the idea now.

Thanks for supplying me with tons of useful material to fuel my newest obsession lol

Welcome Jon, there is lots of information on here that I am sure you can use. when you get that trailer you might as well start a build thread. you might want to show us your designs too! and yes it is a way to go but it would be worth it if you can get over to CRA. I wish I had had the opportunity to go before I started my build. Good luck!!!

Sounds Great. Always a good idea to get the wife on board first. You will love it better then tent camping.

I like to see your toys. I build wood RCs and just got into foamies for indoor flying. I also do low rez modeling of RC planes (20k poly limit) in place them in RealFlight RC flight simulator.

I’m collecting parts bit by bit to build a CNC machine for cutting RC planes my self. I want it to cut wood ribs and have a hot wire attachment for wings cores. Here is a picture of two of my RC in the Sim. A-10 still in work. The foamie is one modeled off my real foamie.

Thank you Gerry and Mary, I will look at CRA and see what I can do to swing it.

Junkboy, you can see some of my stuff at: http://www.youtube.com/user/rcFFBloodyMicks I haven't updated with any new videos in a while since I now work full time and go to school full time.
good looking models. there is a couple videos on there of my CNC router too, mostly testing of the drive train upgrade. I mostly build in dollar tree foam board most recently. stuff is great for building great flying planes on the cheap.

first step is get the trailer base, which I hope will be this weekend. then to finalize a design and tweak my CNC bed for better accuracy and repeatability. Then we can really start building.
