Introducing myself

Postby desertrat9 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 2:21 pm

Hi, I'm desertrat9. I've been lurking on and off this site for several years. I finally signed up yesterday with the help of your great administrator, Mike Schneider (thanks Mike).

The first time I went camping I was 2 weeks old and my family went to Whitney Portals for the night. Mt. Whitney, California. We camped in our homemade (not by my dad) Benroy style teardrop. A favorite place for many, many years was Big Sur California. We used to stay in both the state park and in the private Post campground. Every year, we went to visit relatives in Iowa driving there and back first with our teardrop and then when the family got too large, in Volkswagen vans. Staying in a hotel was usually a treat reserved for when we got too stinky or when the temperatures dipped below freezing. I like to brag that my family has broken down in every state to the western side of the Mississippi.

The last time I went camping was now over a year ago over to Lake Isabella Tilley Creek campground, in my own Locke Nest teardrop which I bought used in 2009.

I just put in a roof vent (wow! what a great idea). I'm currently working on a rebuilding a homemade cartop carrier for the trailer and next week hope to finish up a new awning.

I very much enjoy the information, inspiration and good cheer from this forum.

Hope to see some of you in the near future at the California, Nevada or Arizona gatherings.

Ever consider what our dogs must think of us? I mean, here we come back from the grocery store with the most amazing haul - chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth! - Ann Tyler

Welcome to the forums.

lets see some picture. If you're going to do a big rebuild on it start a build Journal in that area and post plenty of picture. I'm glad to hear you continuing the TD camp tradition.

Best of all have fun.

Oh, forgot to mention - I live in the Mojave Desert, out where the wind blows all day and the coyotes sing at night. In Ridgecrest, CA specifically.

Posted today is my album for the cartop carrier that I mounted this last weekend. There is no build album as I am a horrible person who forgot to take pictures. I will try to take pictures of the awning process. 110395 110391 Don't know if I posted that right or not. It's supposed to take you to a larger picture (it's not) or to the album (it's not). Anyway, there are five pictures in an album posted under my albums.
