Howdy!!!

Postby trek2300 » Mon Jul 29, 2013 11:06 am

My name is Kevin and I live in Omaha, NE. I just purchased plans from Big Woody and I also have a set of plans from Zach Kraylor for a soft top. I am serious about building a trailer and I hope to get started this fall or winter but I'm also a HS football official so my focus will be on that for the time being. I am in awe of some of the things that you all have done and hope that I can come even remotely close to the successes and the craftsmanship that you all have shown on here. I have some basic wood skills and hopefully they're enough to help me produce something cool.

Welcome aboard

Craftsmanship, Cool, these are just words. Better use of words would be, Towable, Watertight, Campable, ( is that a word?) and FUN ! ! There are campers here that took a year in planning and two years to build. Others built in 40 days or two weeks. Just enjoy your build, Make it your own. Enjoy the outdoors or at least the back yard.

I have not see the big Woody planes my self but seen a few trailer and post of trailer where people built one. Nice looking rig. Zach rig is sweet as well.

Welcome to the Forums.

Welcome aboard, Kevin, and good for you, planning on building your own teardrop trailer. Those of us who have done so, feel a special pride in what we have accomplished. As an aside, what is the reason for the soft top? I suppose looking a the stars while preparing to go to sleep is a plus, but flying insects, wind and rain would be a bummer. Build what suits you, as many of us have done. Getting ideas from other builders really helps, as it did me some 11 years ago, due to the info on the teardrop forum. Good luck on your build, take pics as you go along and try to touch bases with some local TD builder/owners in your area.

Roly... I'm not sure how I stumbled onto the soft top but it just seemed like the plans were very well written and I did like the idea of being able to roll back the cover and yet still have a screen. The cover is marine canvas and should be water tight.

Kevin, stick to your guns, don't let me suggest that you change your mind. If I had considered some of the alternate building designs that seemed more "standard", my little teardrops would never had been built......at least not following my goofy designs. Get ready to spend an hour just buying gas, with your TD in tow. All of the folks at the pumps will want a show and tell. and you will love it.
