After much deliberation I recently sold my pop-up trailer. We weren't getting out in it as much as we'd like, it was beginning to need maintenance (It was my family's pop up from my childhood. I also hated setting it up in the dark and rain, usually both. I've put the money in a separate account and have begun saving for something better. Originally I was looking at Aliner pop-ups, which are neat but I joke that as soon as we'd buy one I'd be pregnant with twins, and you really can't sleep very many people in those.
I'm a crafty person, and learning to be handy. We've been renovating an 1885 farmhouse turned hunting camp for 8 years. That is where most of our time and money goes but we are nearing the end of the big stuff(houses are never done.) So i hope in a few years to have the time and money to tinker with a new project.
Lately I've liked the idea of customizing a Cargo Trailer. I lay in bed at night thinking of how to make bunks and convertible couches. How could I incorporate IKEA into it. My latest brainstorm is if the featherlite modpod 1609 has a liftable roof why not unhinge it completely and put a goshen/pop-up style lift on it to give full head room? I'm short, 4'11" so low ceilings are not a problem for me, but dear hubby would probably appreciate a bit more headroom. Also with a higher ceiling I could have a double bunk, even a double queen, sleeping at least 4 in a 6x10 cargo trailer. I also like the idea of as lightweight as possible. It is almost a challange to see if I could build a self-contained trailer that my Subi Forrester could tow (2000lbs max)
Anyone have any experience with these particular things? Thanks so much I will keep scouring the posts and sketching my ideas. I'm hoping by the time I have the money saved and the time to do it, i'll have learned even more in the ways of construction and modification.
I'm happy to be officially part of the community and not just a lurker.
Be well,
Lindsay
