I'm back! Now in the PNW

Postby Sarge » Wed Aug 07, 2013 2:53 pm

Hello,

Back in 2005 I lived in No. California and owned a Hunter HU-4 and participated in the forums. Then in 2006 life changed and my wife's company moved us up to the Seattle, WA, area. I sold the Hunter in 2007 and have been mostly boating but occasionally camping in a tent trailer and a "smallish" travel trailer. Just recently I got a good deal on a used Three Feathers Pinecone teardrop in great shape, so I'm looking forward to getting back into the teardrop "groove" again.

For those of you who remember me, Little Sarge is now 12 years old and Tiny Sarge is 8 years old!!! Most of my previous teardrop adventures were with Little Sarge when he was 4 and my youngest son was just born.

The boys are excited about the trailer and we've already spent 5 nights in the trailer and have yet to go to a campground!

Oh well, I'm looking forward to using the trailer and hopefully meeting up with some of you in the future.

Regards,

Sarge

Don't "should" on yourself, there are plenty of others who will "should" on you for no reason. Accept what you did and move on. Life is too short.

Thank you Brian and Junkboy999.

I did read Pinecone's newbie message and did a search and see that there are at three of us with Three Feathers Pinecone TDs and one with a different Three Feathers trailer. You know, having owned a Hunter brand trailer, which was similar to many home built TDs and now this Three Feathers trailer there are definitely some differences. The Three Feathers is constructed very much like bigger, mainstream trailers with wall papered walls, carpeting and lots of sealant. The frame is impressive. It's not the "traditional" woody TD but it's nice and very solid and should suit my needs quite well.

Looking forward to finding the time to use it. The boys' sports are starting up and weekends get booked fast!

Take care,

Sarge

Hey Sarge - it's nice to meet a fellow Three Feathers owner! Be sure to get signed up for the PNW section and also check out TOW (Teardroppers of Oregon and Washington):

http://www.teardroptrailers.org/about-tow.html

There is a calendar of events coming up. I'm hoping to make the Sept 27-28 event in Molalla, OR.

Currently I'm busy installing sound systems in the cabin and galley, and trying to figure out how to best setup the electrical to support laptop, smart phone, kindles, etc. High tech family. Upcoming projects will be solar panel, electric blanket for winter and possibly a Yakima roof rack before next summer for my Rocketbox. Does your Tumbleweed come with a rear hitch? The Pinecone does but I found that if you put anything heavy on that hitch (I had a bike rack and 1 bike on there a couple weekends ago), the weight bent down the rear bumper a bit so the cargo started to sag. I got it fixed and had a small welding job done to support anything I want to put on the hitch. I should be good to go now but I'm glad I didn't permanently damage my bike rack, my bike, or the Pinecone!

My Pinecone was manufactured in 2011 and sold in 2012 so it's fairly new and in excellent shape. If I remember your questions:
1) Yes I have a cargo box on the front, but the 2013 model has a locking lid. I'm working with the manufacturer to see if I can get a locking lid retrofitted. He is very nice; his name is Mel.
2) The frame underneath looks symmetrical to me. I was just underneath there looking at the reinforced hitch job!
3) My galley has a flat hatch. Definitely a Pinecone. I really like the traditional teardrop shape of the Tumbleweed!!

Hey stay in touch! Maybe we'll meet up at an event or a campground. This weekend (Aug 15-18) my church is having an all-church camping trip in Clatskanie, OR and Pinecone will make a debut there. I'm sure I'll have plenty of lookiloos. Should be fun.

Hey Greg
Hope you have fun and enjoy your upcoming weekend.
Sandi and I are itching to get Miss Piggy back on the road again.
So it looks like we may head north east (novelty for us as we never travel in Canada) this weekend.
Still trying to co-ordinate something for September so we can see some of our TD friends from south of the border.

Hey Brian - Re: the Fall Brigade; the Sept 27-28 event I mentioned in my post to Sarge is that very event. I've been in touch with the organizer; Marty Boehme. I asked for a registration form and then I just need a few scheduling items to line up and I'm there.

Are you thinking of attending?

My 8 year old and I have spent numerous nights in the trailer in the garage and driveway, but this weekend will be our first real "camping" trip with it. If it works out, then I'll check with the boss if the boys and I can attend the Fall Brigade assuming there is room for us. (FYI, my wife is always welcome to go camping with us but she does appreciate the time by herself when we're gone.)

Hey Sarge - Greg here again. Hope to see you at the Fall Brigade and we can make a showing with Three Feathers rigs!

I'm currently planning to be there 2 nights; Sept 27-28. Contact Marty Boehme at [email protected]. He will send details and a registration form. I've never gone to this event before, it will by my first official teardrop event, and TOW event. Hope to meet many new friends there. Cost is very affordable!

This weekend is my church's camping trip, so I will be taking the Teardrop to Clatskanie, OR with the kids. My mountain bike is already mounted up on the rear hitch mount that comes with the Pinecone. So great to just be able to hook up and get away!
