Noob in Texas

Howdy y'all,

Name's Greg aka DucGuy in forums and gambling crowds (got me a couple of Ducatis in the barn). Me and the misses, Angie, been thinkin' 'bout buildin' one of these teardrop moveable sheds.

No seriously, you get the idea. I'm a retired engineer with lots of time on my hands. The newlywed wife and I live in the Texas hill country. It's a beautiful place and when we get out hiking we'd like not to be driving at the end of the day. We've done tents before, but tents at the Texas coast is for kids. Around here, it's hot, all the time, so while we may play like we're twenty something, we need a good bed and air conditioning.

There's one retail shop in Burnet that sells the Little Guy trailers, but other than those we never see teardrops in this area. The LIttle Guys aren't my style though. I have a traditionalist/minimalist nature. My plan is for a fully aluminum skinned 4x8 with hardwood interior. If all goes well, I'll be done by New Years, probably sooner.

I want to thank all those that provided the valuable insights here, it should make this a lot easier on me. For now, time to get back to the research and drawing up my plans and manual.

Cheers

Welcome Greg! There are quite a lot of teardroppers here in the great state. Many are in your area but are not really active. Check out the South Central section of the forum for area gatherings. The two big ones are LCG in October and Beavers Bend now in April. You're welcome to attend, tent camp, and visit even if your teardrop isn't finished.
