Teardrop Roof

Postby jdfdave » Fri Sep 27, 2013 12:21 pm

I am to the stage in my build where I need a make a decision about the roof. I skinned the exterior of the roof with 1/4 b/c exterior grade plywood. The entire outside has been waterproofed with CPES.
Now my decision: Can I just paint the roof with a good exterior paint? Should I use something like FRP from Lowes or Home Depot? If I use those how do I attach them to the roof? Contact Cement? Let them float and just attach at the ends and sides?
All Answers are appreciated. I have a lot to learn and am enjoying the process.

I am sorry I can't answer your question but you might try posting this in the General discussion section as this area is usually for introductions. You will probably get to the usual experienced builders usually frequent that thread and there are just a few who really check this intro thread to just welcome. not to put you off but I built /building a foamie.

We did our roof in fiberglass and epoxy because we wanted the ultimate in waterproofing ( a few years ago we had a totally miserable experience on an Oregon coast camping trip in a leaking trailer and we never want to experience that again ). Some members have used Harbor Freight canvas drop cloth adhered with Titebond lll glue and then painted with exterior house paint with great success . Lee

my roof is canvas drop cloth I used porch and floor paint to stick it to the wood and to seal it, the plywood has no treatment other than the paint, no issues with leaks except once in a pounding rainstorm where the galley hatch wires go through, and that was because the galley hatch wasn't closed.
three years on the porch paint and no issues yet, the trailer even spent last winter outside in the snow just fine.

I am pretty interested in finding out more about the foamies. I have been reading about them but haven't really found out what I wanted yet. That might just be the way I go to keep it as light as possible.
