Hi Folks,
I bought my first tiny camper a few months ago. It was a home build that the original owner hoped to tow with his motorcycle. It didn't work out for him, it made the motorcycle way too unstable. He roughly based his build on the Little Guy RT, so, I guess it is a reverse teardrop but much smaller than the commercial model. It is only about 4 feet wide and just under 6 feet long, which is just big enough for me and my three Shelties. I plan to use it for just short camping trips and to attend dog agility shows.
After fixing it up a bit, I finally got to take it on a real trip, to the Dog Agility Championships in Illinois 2 weeks ago. The camper worked out well for us during our trip but I still have some improvements to make (I kinda guess that making improvements is going to be an ongoing process).
What I was most surprised at was how many people wanted to check out the little camper. I have read about this sort of thing on this forum but didn't think maybe people would be interested in my little camper. Even though we were camping with a lot of dog show people (who were understandably thinking more about their dogs than their campers), I had a steady stream of people wanting to peek inside. Lots and lots of questions too. Most were owners of big RV's and couldn't believe that my dogs and I had enough room to sleep comfortably inside. I enjoyed quoting one of my favorite sci-fi shows, Doctor Who, by saying that my camper was bigger on the inside (I actually have a decal saying that on my camper now). I also got a kick out of telling them that my little camper was way too big for the original owner. The questions didn't stop after we left the our show. During our drive home, people still kept asking questions almost every time I stopped for gas or food.
The first owner did a nice job on the exterior but didn't put much effort into fixing up the inside. I put in new carpet, mounted a TV and hooked up a DVD player. I paid an RV repair shop to add an exterior electrical hookup and another for the TV antenna. I've also added a Google Chromecast to the TV so I can watch Netflix (which is really nice). I also bought an SUV tent, which gives me some extra living space and privacy.
I just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the interesting stories and tips. I'm sure that I'll have a few questions as I try to make this little camper more comfortable and fun.
