:( sorry I did not introduce myself properly my name is Jim I live in central Minnesota near Alexandria. I am married with a lovely wife named Amy we both love the outdoors I was looking for a cabin tent but then my friend told me about you guys. I train dogs and do construction work for a living. At this point looking at building a modified Benroy but I only have a Toyota Corolla to pull it with so I'm looking to make it superlight interested how much weight I would be saving by making a 4 x 8 I would really like a 5 x 8 but  anyway have to run I'll chat later.

Welcome its good to meet you and Amy. I am a Vikings fan myself but raised in Tx wife is Becky (a Cowboy fan) but she is still a good lady.
I have a 6x10 cargo because wife can't stand small areas.
Work construction looking into going to work as safety.
Hope you get started on your build soon so we can get some pics of your build.
Maybe we will pass on a camping trail sometime

Welcome to the forum Jim and Amy, and good for you wanting to build light. I tow with a 4 banger Chevy Cruze and it handles my 2 teardrops with ease. My suggestion to you, is keep it as light a possible. Some may not agree with my off-of-the-wall light weight ideas, but here are a few of them, for what it is worth. All of my builds are either on a 4x8 or 40inch by 4 foot Harbor Freight trailer. ( By the way, they are on sale right now for about a $150 discount) It could be delivered to your place in just a few days, if ordered on their website. I only use a 3/8 inch sheet of plywood for the floor, construct the sides and roof out of 1/4 inch plywood and forgo all of the bells and whistles, like built-in stoves, coolers, water tanks, inverters, on-board batteries and AC units and flat screen TVs.

I have over 30'000 miles on my 4x8 woody, it doesn't leak a drop and all of the glue joints are as solid as when I built it 11 years ago. Check out my construction pics, and you might get a few light-weight pointers. The woody weighs less than 500 lbs, and I have another that is only 6 ft long which only weighs 245 pounds total. Feel free to download the genaric plans on this forum, alter them to suit and start making some sawdust. Good luck on your build, and fortunately, you found this site, which has a wealth of TD information.
;) Roly, the li'l ol' So Calif woody guy, among other kinds.

Welcome Jim and Amy! My 5x8 generic Benroy weighs 1000 lbs. empty. You are welcome to try pulling mine around to see how it feels behind your car. It is probably a little heavy for your Toyota. We will be having a small gathering at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park in May if you would like to see a few Tears up close. You are welcome to camp with us. A gathering is a great way to see a Tear and get some ideas.
