JOMO, Welcome to the group ! :applause: Where do you call home ? We're happy you found us.
Got questions, just ask, someone will have an answer. It may even be as detailed as Bob's answer.
He has over 1700 pictures hidden in this forum, and quite
a few weeks head start. :)
Try to get to a gathering in your area, next season, you'll meet a great bunch of helpful
friendly folks.

I live in Jacksonville fl. I retired from teaching school last June and have been searching craigslist every night since then. I didn't want to drive a long way to look so I just waited and finally there it was right here in town. It needs some TLC but I felt the price was right and I have two sons that are pretty handy. My son was a little upset that I didn't call him to go with me to look at it, but I was afraid it wouldn't last long. I have a class C 30 ft. motorhome but I don't like taking it by myself. We use it for family camping trips and vacations. Not sure I will be able to hook up and back up by myself but you never know till you try. My sons are grown, my one son works on cars when they have been wrecked (used to call those people auto bodyman) so he keeps the class C serviced and in working order. The other son likes to primitive camp and works for home depot. So between the two they should be able to get everything going. I tell them, you guys keep them going and I'll pick up the cost, you do the labor and you can use them whenever you want. Works out great for everyone. They have worked all week-end. Just small jobs but needed doing. Now all that's left is to do is fix the tail lights, get it weighed so I can title it and buy a tag. Lots of stuff can be done but it will be usable. I noticed that the tear drop club goes to Little Talbot Island which is just down the road from me. Hope to find out when they go and drive over and meet them one day. 8)

I've got a sick feeling in my stomach. I bought my little trailer off craigslist and today I took my bill of sale and tried to get a tag. The bill of sale called it a homemade camper trailer and the DMV said I couldn't register it, I had to apply for a title. Matter of fact I can't even apply for the title the man that built the trailer had to apply and then transfer over to me. It only weighs 780lbs. I read on the DMV webpage that a trailer under 2000lbs didn't need a title, all I needed was a bill of sale and to have it weighed, which I got it weighed, so I thought I was good to go. I called the guy I bought it from and he said the person at the tag agency is wrong and he would try to register it in his name and then write me a new bill of sale for the registered trailer. Keep your fingers crossed for me, if he can't help then I just wasted my money and have a piece of junk sitting in my yard I can't use or get rid of.

Ask to speak to a supervisor. Most folks at the DMV here don't know their posterior from something else. It's only a trailer worth a few bucks not a multimillion dollar rig that you stole.

Be persistent.

Never give up, never surrender.

Others have registered their trailers in Maine (I think) by mail. Once you get it registered in one state it will kinda grease the skids to register it in your home state.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Gus

Sometimes just waiting a day or so and going back and
talking to someone else, or going to another DMV office to
do your business will do the trick. You're not trying to put
anything over on them as you are correct according to what
you said their own web site information was.

Tell them it's "home built" and you need to register it. You are simply implying you built it without coming right out with a bold faced lie. ( Wouldn't bother me , however, just to get the job done as long as my concience is clear ).

OR

You could purchase your next kit trailer and plate it and use that plate on both trailers. I have four trailers on the road and all four just happen to have the same exact plate

I will second this, here in California I would just as soon put a pistol in my mouth as visit the DMV, ask 4 different people behind the counter and get 4 different answers. I will usually print off the DMV section that pertains to what I'm trying to accomplish and when they balk I just hand it to them. I once went to register a car hauler trailer that was manufactured by a company called M/C, and in the DMV computer M/C meant motorcycle, don't need to tell you where this went, but finally with a supervisor we got the job done. Collect all you can from their website and take it with you, if it say's you should be able to do it a supervisor should be able to guide the person helping you in the right direction.
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction, the world will have a generation of idiot's.
