Hello from Nevada

Postby Jaytlee » Sun Aug 24, 2014 1:09 am

Still working on my first teardrop and having loads of fun. TNTT has helped me with many ideas. I look forward to start going to some of the teardrop events out in the west. I am still working on my interior and my electrical but really itching to use my new toy. :D :?

I posted some pictures in a build album.

Now that I have a teardrop, I am wondering about the campsites that I will go to. Can I still use the tenting campsites or am I required to use the rv campsite, is there any difference? I am new at this. Your input would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm also in Nevada.

Each campground has their own rules, but generally if they have designated tent spots, teardrops can not use them. They block off drivable access or the access is just single vehicle only.

When making reservations and I am not able to select a spot myself, I tell the host that I have a 10 foot teardrop trailer, if they don't know what that is, I tell them just like a pop up tent trailer, and they generally put me in good spots.

I do not like to be stuck in an area with the big fully self contained RVs and I prefer more unimproved camp sites, but this one fit nicely...

Welcome Jaytlee from Reno! Most of the campgrounds in the North can be used by either tent or Teardrop if you have room for your tow vehicle. If you check on-line you can often see the sites and how large the parking area is. If not, I'm with Citylights, give 'em a call. Most of the time we pay tent prices when camping too.

For Nevada Gatherings, check under Southwest (I don't know why) and Jefferson State. You might be interested in the Glyphs gathering coming up in September.

Yep, a lot of folks name their Teardrops. I think because they are very personal builds.

All the Best,

Dave

By the way, love the Bruce Lee image!

Jaytlee:
Welcome to the madness!
By all means, join us at The Glyphs in September. A tear is not required. Tent, car, whatever. If you can't make an overnighter, it might be worth it to make a day run to see the different tears there.
Heck when we attended our first teardrop gathering (at the Glyphs 3 years ago), we went with a 30 foot long toyhauler.
We were warmly welcomed and had a great time.

If you want to see some tears, we're in Carson, Dave and Lisa are in Reno, Debbie and Randy are in Lovelock, and Mel and Jan are in Incline Village.

Between the four of us, you'll see a huge variation in styles and construction methods... Canvas covered off road, Art Deco aluminum, a woody, and a foamy.

Hope to see you soon.

Sam and Kat.
