My third post

Postby unclemark » Mon Sep 15, 2014 12:57 am

Greetings from a teardrop dreamer who "settled for" a used popup Viking in May. After lurking here for almost two years I got tricked into posting a comment today when I rushed to the defense of slowcowboy. I've thoroughly devoured two or three of the build threads on here and have been amazed by the craftsmanship on display. However, I've lately been much more attentive to the popupportal forum than this forum. Will I ever build a teardrop? I hope so, but nothing is currently on the drawing board. The cost of simply maintaining and occasionally improving my "good enough" trailer is kind of shocking. I can't imagine what the real cost of my perfect camper would be.

unclemark Welcome, your post is somewhat ................., I want you to be aware some time ago my son was given a "popUP". it had a hard top that was lifted with wires, well one day right after he got it he decided to investigate why one side just would not go up...... He put a 2x4 in the opening on one side to hold it up, He was putting a board on the other side when the other wire broke. The top came down like a lightning strike. It missed my hand by a quarter of an inch. the board went flying. I just want to say I will never have a pop up. And please be mineful there is only a small wire holding the tops up. You are welcome to hang out here anytime!!! I hope you never have the problem we had.

Thank you for the welcome and cautionary tale. I bring many many surplus poles on camping trips to prop up the popup. Those thin cables are very scary.

I'm glad you posted, too! (But, I still think Slow should stick to his day job...Even professional comedians sometimes have trouble getting a laugh. We didn't even know he was making a joke! HaHa!)
Now that you've posted, don't be a stranger! Pop in here and "talk" with the rest of us when you can.
Oh, and check out the gatherings that tnttt/Tearjerker groups have, up in the blue header, under the pull-down for TD Friendly Websites. The fall ones are listed and even some of next year's gatherings are already there.

I often laugh when people aren't actually joking but this time I guessed correctly. Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions. We're chronic campers, and I think I have figured out a third opportunity I can add to our remaining schedule this year. I'll check out the gathering schedule and see if there's even more camping in my immediate future.
