Hello from SE Alabama

Postby ajwarren70 » Tue Nov 18, 2014 1:47 pm

Hello everyone,

Allow me to start out by saying that there is alot of smart builders on this site. I look very much forward to talking to all of you throughtout the building of my first Teardrop.

I have been wanting to build a Teardrop for a while, just never took the plung because my wife didn't like camping. Not long ago my wife purchased a Jeep Wrangler and met up with some other Jeepers and my she had a great time with them. They all started talking about going on camping trips and my wife replied " I refuse to sleep on the ground" so I was quick on my feet and thought here is my chance, so I replied to her and the group " how about I build us a teardrop trailer". Anything but the ground will work for me she replied. This happens a out a couple months ago, So with that being said I thing it is time for me to get started.

Right now I am in the planning stages and seems to have a hang up on the size tires and the shape of the teardrop itself. I am leaning towards 15" wheels (on day 17") w/ # 9 Dexter torsion axle, 45 degree down start angle on a 5x9 frame. I want the height as I will be pulling it with the Jeep and maybe a little mild off roading.

If any of you have any suggestions please by all means I would like the feedback. I will be checking back as often as possible and thanks to all of you in advance for your assistance.

Thanks bc toys for the reply. I will be sure to take your advice and check out the off road section. There sure is a lot of information on this site and a lot of decisions to be made when building one of these. I really want the first build to go smooth so maybe I will want to do a second one some day or help some friends get into the TD camping. Thanks again and I'll be sure to post pics as the build progresses.

Hi Andrew,

I came on this article early on and found it a great help:

I'm sure you've probably read it but I thought I should mention it.

Welcome aboard - make sure when you get going you post plenty of pictures :)
