Checking In From Kansas

Postby KansasSam » Fri Jan 30, 2015 8:56 am

Hello TNTTT,

First off, my username...I am Sam(Yes..yes...Get the Dr. Seuss jokes and movie references out of your system), and I live in Kansas. I know, original right? To be more specific though I live in southeast Kansas in the small town of Independence. I have been tossing the idea of getting a teardrop around for years, I love everyone I have seen and my wife hates everyone she has seen. They make her claustrophobic. So heres my challenge, a 5X10 interior that is open enough for her but still fits into the teardrop realm. I think I am going with the "Wanderer" design, thanks design library, instead of the classic teardrop look, but that is subject to change. I am also going to put a lexan roof on it, I think that will help with the claustrophobia issues. A queen mattress, A/C, and heat are a must! I have a few design ideas that I want to implement into it to, such as a rotating TV That can be viewed from the Inside or from the galley, a stove and sink that rotate out from the galley, and possibly more as I get going on the build. I also need at least 15 inch rims, as I want to be able to do a little off-road and beach camping so I need the clearance. This is my biggest problem right now because the price goes up quite a bit. I thought about switching out the axles, leafsprings and rims on a northern tools, but I'm not sure...As y'all can see I have lots of stuff going through my head, now I just have to apply it. I'll be picking your brains soon.

Special Thanks to Mike and the Admin team for this Website. :applause:

Until Later,

Hello, Sam. It sounds like you and I have the same problem (claustrophobic wife). And don't get me started on the whole "some place to go potty at night" thing. As you look around, you will find Bob has more than one level of genius. I am a little north of you in Lawrence.

Being able to see the moon and stars at night, is definately a plus. My 13 year old wood has no skylight, just a roof vent. However, when I built my Stealth fighter teardrop, I was able to lay down, look out of the canopy windows and get a great sky view. I liked it so much, I added a trolley top to my little 6 foot Stacker, but the little port holes just didn't allow much star and moon observing, just added headroom. Therefore, I added a plexiglass skylight, and Ta-Da, now I can view the entire sky as I am lulled to sleep. Now if someone decides to peer into my bedroom from the top, well go ahead, watch me sleep, I don't care. :-)
