Hi folks

Hi I joined a couple of weeks ago. I tried to post and it didn't show up. I wish I had saved it somewhere, never learn!

I'm interested in building a cargo box for my Subaru outback. One that opens from the side like the tool boxes on some trucks. I have an old sears box I use, but they are pretty useless in bad weather. I want it to be aerodynamic and I want it to sit right down on the roof to prevent air flow under it. It is basically a 3'x4'x20" box, which would then have a nose in front like a plane or an upturned boat.

I'm starting construction, I'm planning on using 1/8" luan (?). I'm planning on building the bottom to the shape I want by gluing ribs, that are cut to the contour of the roof, to the luan bottom also cut to shape. This should allow the plywood to hold it's form and fit the roof, and give me some thing to use to cut and measure from.

I want to keep this as light as possible, and I need to waterproof it. Someone suggested this forum as a place to get some ideas from so here I am.

Hi again.

I did build that box, I'm not sure if I ever saw my post? I joined again and was told I was all ready a member? Anyway I covered the box " the grey slug" with poormans fiberglass, it worked great and I had it on the road for 3 months last summer. I will post pictures if I ever learn how!

I want to build a sleeping top on a 93 Grand Cherokee I just bought for this pupose, it will be about 2' high and 10' long, extending off the back end of the vehicle and supported by something attached to the trailer hitch, (maybe one of those things that carry dirtbikes ?) the idea being, stop and crawl in with out moving anything to sleep. I want to do a Foamie and would like to find out the best way to do it. I guess I will start a thread on the foamie place.

Thanks again.
