G'day from the Southern Highlands & comments please

R G’day

Introduction

I am married with a child. I live an hour and half out of Sydney NSW Australia on 5 acres. Some handyman skills.

Taking a sabbatical and wondering if I will ever return [the good thing about smashing your head against a metal girder is how it feels when you stop.]

TDs

I love the sheer elegance in design and concept of TDs.

And I am hoping to build one.

My Build Ideas – Comments please

The advantage of joining this group is that there are so many people who know so much more than me. Any idea I have can be reality checked against the collective wisdom knowledge and experience.

A slide on. Hoping to build a 7 or 8 foot by 5 foot slide on to go onto a 4 x6 trailer. I have seen a thread for a design but I haven’t seen a build and that design has a crawl entry through the rear hatch. If there are any builds can someone point them out to me please?

The sleeping floor [7 x5] to be one foot above the trailer floor leaving a 4x6x1 storage area between the sleeping floor and the trailer floor.

Skin in aluminium composite.

Glued and dowelled mini I beams out of plywood. Most framing seems to be out of lumber. I haven’t seen a thread about homemade I beams but [apart from the nuisance of making them] the additional strength and the weight savings seem to be a good idea.

Well that’s it. If some of my ideas are completely stupid be gentle.

Cheers :D

No matter how much you plan you'll change them more than a teenage girl on a Friday night.
Just keep the goal in mind and concentrate on what you want.
Mistakes will happen as will great success but you'll inevitably end with something to be proud of Some where down the track .
Best of luck

G'day from across the ditch. :shake hands:
There have been a few slide-ons happening over here, take a look at Bantam, felixx and trailtroll.
I used the ACL to skin my one and was very pleased with it. It's good to work with and as soon as it is on it is finished. Saved us a lot of time with a restricted time frame.
As for stupid ideas, building a teardrop is the least stupid idea you will ever come up with.

Dear Sheddie,

Thanks for the pointers.

Your shed is pretty good. but I have double garage[ cement floor and power], Lean-to [dirt floor lights and power] Workshop [concrete floor lights and power] Concrete floored stables [without power used for storing good stuff] and dirt floor stable {lumber iron posts and box steel].

Oh I had to do some spray painting. Do it in the garage and you get drift everywhere. Do it in the lean-to and the wind makes it hard to spray and the misting rain bxxxxs the finish.

So I headed to the local tip and the recycling area and purchased a very old fashioned stand up tent for $10.00 AUD. Erected it in the lean-to and instant spray booth. This might be useful for others. I am new to TD's and Boards. Is my spray booth idea something other members would be interested in? if so where would be the best place to post it.?

A slide on.

Hmmmmm.... I know it's been done.

I've built a couple of so-called slide ons.

Slide 'em on the trailer and bolt it down and leave it. Even the 4' x 8' 'drop I built was a bit of a bugger to get on and bolted down in just the right spot.

One of things we love about our teardrop is, load the cooler and we're gone. I wouldn't want to have to load the cabin on the trailer first. It's a job. :frightened:

Either way,

My sentiments exactly Tony

My mate that's given me numerous hours of help kept telling me I should make it a slide on, I kept saying not happening.
I see him about once a month and the last few times he can see what a pain in the arse it would be to take off...never mind the plumbing and electrics
