Howdy, from Austin!

Hey y'all,

I just wanted to stop in to say 'hi' and to thank all those from whom I've gathered many ideas, instruction and wonderful commentary on the teardrop life. With the help of this forum, I've completed my tear (or at least completed enough to actually use). I started June 5/15 and finished August 20/15. It's based on the ubiquitous HF frame and is constructed with plywood sandwiching foam insulation. Exterior coating is Interlux topside paint.

I opted for one door on the curb side for safety reasons. In place of a rooftop vent I added two quiet computer fans on each side of the interior cabinet. The black vents can be seen on each side.

Tongue box houses battery and tools. I'm thinking I'll also mount a small spare tire under the tongue as well.

I replaced the stock HF tires and wheels with 215/75/15 BF Goodrich T/As on Cragar chromed steel rims for added ground clearance and "the look".

Next year, the plan calls for a solar system and perhaps a Climate Right A/C unit. It gets a little hot here.

Instead of a "Teardrop", I present the "W.E.E.P." - Weekend Exploration Escape Pod!

How did you like the Interlux paint? Did you use their primer first. What was your outer cover made of? Wood? How did the finished turn out?

My plan is to build a trailer very, very similar to yours and I'm really conflicted over how to finish the outside. I love the idea of using a painted on finish but if I do I want it very, very smooth finish.
