New guy rustytoolss

Postby rustytoolss » Tue Apr 19, 2016 7:40 pm

I'm the new guy intown, I live in northern Ohio. I have 2 vintage trucks (1946 dodge dumpbed pickup street rod & 1964 dodge A100 pickup Like the little red wagon wheelie truck). Anyway I go to weekend events with these trucks, and camping in a tent is not as much fun as it use to be. And the fact That I'm not getting any younger. So if I plan to continue going to the car shows in the coming years, I think it's time to think about updating my weekend lodging, and ditch the tent soon.
So I hope to learn what I need to know to improve my weekend lodging, camping events, and build a small trailer. I'm looking for ideas for a light weight " standy" trying to stay at or under 1000 lbs. I may use a popup frame. Money and weight are the two biggest factors. Light weight/ budget build.

Welcome! From another 'nuther newbie. I've seen some pretty nice teardrops behind show cars. Looks awesome.

Welcome, Rusty...

You don't say where in Northern Ohio you are located, whether near Indiana or near the Lake Erie snow belt. Regardless, you'll probably see some snow and rain in your area. Since you are thinking of a pop top and you want to keep the weight down, and you have to worry about the weather, a camping trailer made out of foam might be your best bet. You'll probably save some money with that, too. Take a look in the Foamies section of this forum and see what you think.

Welcome from an oldie, and in North Western Ohio. You might want to come to some of the Buckeye Tearjerkers gatherings.

Welcome...

Look under any old trashed popup before you buy it. There are some around that have a trailing arm and small rear coil spring, no damping. Leaf springs have some natural damping due to interleaf friction. Standy on one of those undamped coil suspensions would I think kangaroo down the road and want to flip.
