Hello from Ohio

Postby Trickytrip » Mon Apr 25, 2016 6:37 pm

So happy to be a part of this group. I am looking forward to getting ideas for a build or possibly finding a teardrop that is looking for a new adventure. A build would be hard for me, I am on disability for a list of problems and chronic back pain to top it off. My dog, Silky, is a border collie and she travels with me...everywhere. All of my life I have had a desire go to on a trek, up into Canada, across the northern neighbor and down the coast of Washington, zig zag Oregon, see the Redwood National Park, Yosemite, Utah, I have seen the Grand Canyon (Silky hasn't), Yellowstone, Maine, and where ever else I want to go. A teardrop seems to be perfect and I have decided after much deliberating that this will be my year, before my back gets any worse.

I hope to do some meetups with fellow teardroppers and tiny campers along my travels.

We are also on Ohio as you can see west of Toledo. I would recommend joining Tearjerkers http://www.tearjerkers.net/ and coming to some of the gatherings. A very good way to see what you do and do not like.

I will be looking to after I get one. What do you and others think of the Honey Badger Teardrops? They are in my price range and I will be able to add what I want to make it mine.

Is this just you? the Honey Badger appears to be a 4X8 a bit tight for two. I have known a number of folks who have come to a gathering to gain ideas either tenting or staying in a motel near by.
Many build their own.

Hello there, Trickytrip, welcome aboard. Good, another adventurer has been bitten by the teardrop trailer bug. Now, after you do aquire one, you must make that trip into Canada and visit a one-of-a-kind teardropper, that has his own campground, right there on his farm in Western Canada. You may even get a personal invitation from this guy. His name is Brian, and I hear his prime rib dinners are to die for. Do get involved with the tearjerkers group, they can give you a bunch of pointers, as to what to look for and what to look out for. Good luck on your search, and swing on down to So Calif, and we'll talk teardrop, along with a cup of coffee.

The honey badger is a low cost TD. At $2500 the builder is going to build it in the low's cost way he can.(he has to make something for his time) I would see if you could get a second door and window. It will make it a lot easier to make your bed with a bad back.
The way he is building them it should not cost a lot more to add the second door and it is a lot easier for him with his fixtures.
Wood is hard to keep nice so I would plan on paint if not right away in a year or two.
If it is just you and fido. You will be able to use a twin size mattress with spacers(3 Inch?)on the sides. You will have a little space for odd and ends.
Just my thoughts,

Thanks for the info on Brian, will put him on my places to visit list. Also, if/when I find myself in SoCal, I will most certainly stop by for coffee and conversation.

I did request a price for the second door, ceiling fan/vent, electric and galley ready. He quoted me $3700. I would also have to pay shipping on top of that. I saw his ad on craigslist in eastern KY, but they are in Tampa, FL. I am really strapped financially, if I could get him down to $2700, I may nix the galley ready and do that a bit at a time.

If you shop ebay you can find new fantastic fans for around $100. If you go to a TD event with tools and caulk in hand I am petty sure you will find a volunteer to but it in for you.
Shipping? You don't like Florida? Sounds like a road trip to me.

Thank you, this looks like a great starter! Are you in the area of this builder? I could easily make that my own. A 12 hour drive at less than $300 would be worth it. :)

Hey KennethW, I talked to the builder and he took my order for.....2 years from now. He only builds 2 a month and he said if people cancel, the remaining orders get bumped up, so I will be looking at April of 2018. It would take 40 cancellations to have my TD by the end of this summer and I don't think that will happen.  :(
