Hi n0ukf , welcome to the Forum from a central Minnesotan...
If one enjoys camping, the means is never a problem and I completely understand the time and build... I ended up going from tent to back of an old K5 Blazer (Tight to say the least) to a custom built Cargo Conversion and the FunFinder when long trips or more comfort is desired...
We spent a week in your neck of the woods, no pun intended, last year... We spent the first night in Grand Marais and then headed to the "Trails End" for a few days, before working our way back home... Beautiful place...
We will enjoy hearing more about your build, buy, or, whatever you camp in, but I agree, a hard side is really nice... camp is set up when you get there and the roof is solid when the weather turns sour... Good luck on your choice...
