Hi there and thanks everyone for contributing to such a valuable resource - I'm a web-developer-wanna-be-woodworker gal newly moved to Tucson (my partner is teaching at the university here) and to stave off my hot summer blues I've decided to make good on my longtime dream of building a tear. (Yes, I have a covered / air-conditioned space to build it in lol). My partner thinks I should go the route of building the 5x8 frame on a 4x8 trailer, but not sure if you actually save any costs with that - that's my first search right after this post.
MAX I HAVE BUILT A 5'6" X 10 ON A 4X8 MODIFIED HARBOR FREIGHT FRAME
ooops cap lock !
I have also built a 5'2" (isH) x 10 on a Namco 5X8 frame while I feel the 5 wide frame was a bit easier of a build there is no real performance difference in my book.
Here is my barn build if you want some pics of how I utilized the 5x8.
One warning is I have found the tongues on both frames a bit anemic.
Good morning early riser! Welcome from Tucson. If you have any questions I'll try to help if I can. Take a look at the many build types & decide what you want to do. Best of luck, tim curry, mid-town
Build log: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=60248 The time you spend planning is more important than the time you spend building.........
Thanks Bob and Tim - I will most definitely reach out as my (inevitable, innumerable) questions arise! Getting my bearings around here and looking through a ton of great build logs - this weekend will be the trailer purchase and then off to the proverbial races.
A follow up of Bobhenry's comment on the HF trailer tongues... Several folks I know have gone to the NorthernTool trailer for improved tongue and trailer strength... The NT trailer is a bit pricier than the HF, but some claim it is well worth the price. I have seen both and would prefer the NT, but I am usually overkill on strength...
There are some really great TD designs and you came to the right place for info and help...
Good luck on you build (From an AZ transplant to MN) and keep us up to speed with lots of pics...
