New guy from WI

Postby Steve D » Thu Jun 23, 2016 6:26 pm

My wife and I have camped on and off for 25 years. We started off tent camping then moved to a pop-up and ultimately to a 30' used Dutchman bumper pull. Two years after we bought the Dutchman I had to replace the back 1/3 of the floor. Shortly after that it was sold. Neither of us care to go back to tent camping so we haven't camped since.

Our current passtime is kayaking. We have visited several lakes in the area and would like to venture out to some overnight stays.

I am in the planning stage of a 5x10 Teardrop.

Build requirements: (as of this moment)

AC
Queen bed
TV/DVD player
Storage for all our cast iron.
A frame and structure that can handle mountain logging roads.
A roof rack for our Kayaks

I have read several threads here and have picked out (stole/copied) some ideas for ours.

One thing that I never would have thought of( if I hadn't read it here).......ventilation while you sleep!
Thanks to everyone that put emphasis on this safety requirement!

Thanks
Steve

Welcome aboard. I have slept in 5 teardrops that I have built, and stale, interior air has never been a problem, even with 2 dogs with me all night long. A crank up roof hatch seems to do the trick, and there is always the option of opening a window.

Howdy neighbor! I'm in the process of building a 6x10x6 foamie. Himself kayaks, but we'd probably use the roof rack on the SUV for those.

Good to meet you. I'm in Fond du Lac and built a foamie to haul kayaks/canoes and a small motorcycle. On mine, I added some wood structure to carry the weight of the roof racks.
