Ok, no more lurking - I started a build journal on my first adventure in the teardrop world here: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=66456&p=1176107#p1176107 since I finally quit reading about these things and jumped into a build. I need a way to take my 3 boys on trips with economy in mind; in other words something that I can tow with my older Mercedes diesel rather than having to get the Powerstroke Dually out. I'm not a big fan of tents, primarily for the work it takes to dry, clean, and stow them after use.
Anyway, I'm a mechanical engineer in the suburbs of Atlanta that works at a large university in the city. I also have a small side business doing tube bending and fabrication, and have lots of fabrication and we3lding experience. I have access to about any tool you can imagine between my shop and my work.
I have wasted a lot of time trying to design the coolest teardrop ever, but finally decided to just build a very simple one to get some time with one and see what I really need. Of course I waited to the last minute, and have an extremely short deadline to get the first iteration done - 1 week.
Thank you for all the info on this site! There is a wealth of info on here!
