Hello! from Virginia, USA

Hi all! I have been designing camping trailers for a few years now, BUT NOT BUILDING ANY! Just the way I am! I have a set of constraints that are driving my projects, the least of which is my 6'7" height. I am currently working on design #30, what I call a Whalemouth design. This is a pivot-up design that is closed and low for traveling, and high at one end for bath and kitchen standing, with the low end for sleeping and storage when parked. The high end is at the front of the trailer with a cover that doubles as an awning.
I am thinking light frame with foamie-style build. This version is about 7' X 14' with a raised interior height of over 7'6 at the peak. When down, the trailer could still be used as a teardrop-style, with access to the bath, sink, and bed. Interior height at 5' when down. I'll share more as I develop the concept. I use SketchUp and Fusion360 to help test design parameters. Here is a little animation of the concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hSbN6ySnPU

That's an interesting design. Got a library of your other designs somewhere?

While I like the idea of hard side slide up campers, there are some implementation issues with how you build em.

Look up the teton x hybrid camper as an idea for a poptop. I know soft side popups have issues too, but they are easier to make work.

Tony,
I am getting closer every day! Actively looking for trailers, and once I have one I'll refine the design to fit.

Scott,

I like the Teton-X, though this design is trying to avoid the flapping night terrors so greatly depicted in the Top Gear campervan challenge: https://youtu.be/I7g08nwEmyY?t=452

This earlier design relied heavily on soft sides: https://youtu.be/Gay79-JnEJc

Yeah thats why mine works with the top down, still 5'3" inches with the roof down.
